DSTV Broadband now available

I've got this:

When trying to view a video, a manual login is required. But when an active username and password is supplied the system simply says: “You currently do not have an active DSTV Premium Subscription for the ID Number You supplied.”

As quoted in the article! :(

They are indeed. Locally hosted by MWEB - both part of Naspers as Highflyer pointed out.

Okay cool, thanks rpm. Maybe it's just the fact that everyone is checking it out now, because it's much slower to browse the site than it was this morning ;)

Windows only - blah.

Just hit play...it will work :-)

Not working.

I wonder if it's because I played the first file I downloaded on the office pc? I'm using the house pc now and it's not working? ;)

The size of a standard movie – in this case The Price of Forgiveness – is around 187 MB in low resolution and 416 MB in high resolution. A shorter show like Egoli is 55 MB in low resolution and 121 MB in high resolution.

Can someone please tell me how long Egoli is?

Well? Anybody?

So far no success in playing in Explorer. Now downloading a file, but terrible news-NO RESUME support. So if you crash during a 500mbyte download, you start all over again!

ernstn: use Firefox + one of the many download managers available for it

DRM also stops me from playing the file in WMP after downloading. So basically I have wasted 150mbytes for absolutely nothing???

This is not proper IP TV though. It is a South Africanized media spinner to be honest. Nothing here that is really news folks. Move along now....

You would have to pay an arm and a leg in bandwidth to optimally use this service and frankly I prefer overseas downloads if I am going to burn bandwidth. Thinking about it now, the IS local only accounts can make this interesting. Can people give speed test results please or is this service hosted overseas???

Egoli is normally from 18:00 to 18:30. Remove the ad breaks and it's about 20 minutes long.

Thanks.

20min x 60 = 1200s

121MB x 8 = 968Mb

968Mb / 1200s = 0.807Mbps

Breakthrough algorithm invented by DSTV engineers? I think not. :D

Eish! :(
