Has it always been such a rigmarole to cancel DSTV?

I logged into self service earlier this month to cancel my DSTV package since I had no more use for it (read Netflix). I slid the slider from active to inactive. My account balance of zero to a Credit of +- R600 since my debit order had already run a few days earlier.

I logged into self service last night to check on my refund and couldn't believe my eyes that the service had been reconnected and I was in arrears with R900! Somehow my service had been reconnected. I had also been charged a reconnection fee.

I called the call centre for help. Half way through the first call, the call dropped and I was met with their satisfaction survey. I called back and same thing happened. On my third attempt I was able to communicate my problem. The call centre agent promised to investigate and call me back within 15 minutes. This didn't happen.

I have spent 20 minutes this morning talking to another agent who insists that I reconnected the service on the 25th of July via self service. This is impossible.

Is there a Multichoice/DSTV rep in this forum? Just feel that many obstacles are deployed to discourage people from cancelling their DSTV.

Send a tweet, their twitter account is very well run, well, in my experience. @DSTV

That's why I never signed a debit order. When I cancelled my DSTV, I simply stopped doing the EFT and that was that.

I have found the self-service system to be completely unreliable and unusable. Very poor system.

I was on a the same boat: have had 4 different decoders on my profile but only one was acitve, they disconnected my profile and told me i owe them about 1400, asked them for what they coulnt say. I spent more than 40 minutes on the phone arguing that, hanged up called back and my issues were resolved. I think it had to do with their system upgrade this past weekend

Thanks for the replies - so my query has been escalated and I have a reference number so hopefully something comes of it. Yes the system has been changed even the self-service looks different...

I canceled online, everything took about half a day.

Easiest cancellation ever!

Out of interest sake, is DSTV on a contract basis? If not, if you are not paying via debit order, but eft , and you tired, can you just stop paying and they automatically just shut you down?

Instead of you cancelling, and so on. I'm assuming this would be some bad reflection on your credit rating etc?

Not the same problem, but found out that they kept reactivating my old hd pvr which I cancelled earlier this month and kept charging me reconnection fees and also found out that someone put insurance on my account and it has been going on for months and ended up disconnecting me as they said I owed them R250.

So they still say I owe R850 was R1038 even though I owe them R779 (for premium/xtraview) even though I told them to reverse and cancel all the mistakes they did.

Last time I am changing decoders as it is a mission with Multichoice.

I cancelled my DSTV last month. I had to fight with them because I was told I could only cancel my subscription on the day before the payment was due? I was like WTF? Only one day in the month I could phone to cancel?? Seriously something fishy. Any way I just told the first line operator to transfer me to a supervisor or manager. What BS. Told them I have given notice, they have an obligation to cancel as per my request... Seems to have been done ... but I'll keep an eye on my account just in case anyway!

I'm worried now. I'm also on debit order, and plan to cancel some time in the near future (still looking for reliable online places to watch sports - I don't mind watching recorded or delayed). In fact, I don't have much use for a television set at all...I only watch sports.
SigmaZ please keep us updated! And let us know if there's a better way of cancelling one's DSTV subs.

Multichoice is the worst company I have ever dealt with.

I just called to cancel my dstv and they flat out refused to send me an email confirming the termination date, saying "it's fine, it's on the system". Hmmm, blindly trusting what some uneducated moron on the customer service line says has never worked out too well for me in RSA. Even the manager I spoke to was genuinely shocked that I would want written confirmation of my service ending. I am supposed to just take their word for it.

When I cancelled my car insurance, the email confirmation was in my inbox before I had even put the phone down.

Why do such simple tasks always develop into missions that take days to sort out? The truly hilarious part is that the lady on the phone said that multichoice cannot send out emails, but I received my dstv newsletter from multichoice 5 mins after talking with her.

This ^. Only my bond and insurance gets deducted via debit order. And if it affects my credit rating, so be it. Will stop me from getting more debt, so actually a good thing in my opinion.
