Anyone notice that DSTV channels seem to be LOUDER?

SET (Sony Entertainment TV) is one of the worst, with a huge contrast between normal programme and the ads.

We have to keep reaching for the volume button. Especially if you change from SET to, say, TCM, there is a dramatic change.

This started around New Year.

There used to be an option somewhere in the menu where the sound levels can be pre-set for each channel.
But, it never worked properly, and there is nowhere to turn off the two stage muting.

2 more reasons as to why I canceled that DSTV rubbish.
Nice to see that they're still up the their old tricks of buggering you around.

Stoke's correct, somewhere in the Menu there is an option to set the channel volume.

I'm still trying to get DSTV to play without breaking up on all channels, never mind the volume. DSTV is useless. My decorder keep searching for signals with major breakups.

SABC channels (especially SABC 2) also apply volume level contrast between programmes and advertisements. Fsucking irritating.
Don't they know what an output compressor is?
Probably has something to do with power saving - lower volumes=less power useage. :)
But why not apply a constantly low output signal - they'll save much more on power and at least the levels would be acceptable.

most adverts audio are compressed so that they sound louder. the DSD990 does have a "USER VOLUME SETTING" afaik. think it's in the "TV INSTALLATION" section. code: 9949.

ever noticed that sometimes the sound dont play on channel series? i then have too go to another channel. then back to series to get thhe sound on, heck sometimes me DMX channels dont work either!

i must say. in the years i've had dstv i've never had that problem. perhaps im just lucky, hehehe :D

noticed pvr does not have this "user volume setting". in the past it used to be very bad, especially on discovery.
