I'm downgrading from DSTV premium to Compact. I notice compact doesn't list MNET as a channel. So I'd have too get it separately. Interestingly we're currently paying just over R220 for Premium(excl Mnet) and R270 for MNET. Now Compact is going for R220 as well . How can Compact and Premium(excl MNet) be going for the same price

Perhaps you can't cancel your separate MNET account and just leave DSTV Premium on. Because then nobody would buy Compact if you could. They're making it not viable to have MNet and Compact.

Alan your paying 220 for premium and 270 for mnet?

That is almost as much as having full dstv which i think is now 499 a month.

yeah its gone up to R500! and all i really watch is overhaulling and top gear :-(

Yeah - it's value for money is highly questionable, esp after that price hike.

Benefit of doing it this way is that MNET doesn't loose signal in severe weather as it doesn't get it's signal from the dish.

what does premium give you? the full boquet minus M-Net? cant be!

Premium (r499pm) includes Mnet but you can opt to have it via analogue.

I can happily do with mnet so might move my subscription to Compact (r219+r60 for the SD PVR). Hopefully I'll keep the content already on my PVR which will satiate my kids appetite for Hi-5.

MNet is the key to the whole DSTV experience. They will never (unless forced by law) spearate it out and offer it as part of a slimmer bouquet. They know if they did that people would desert the premium bouquet in their droves.

Premium is the full service.

The reason is that the more expensive channels (like MNet) subsidise the cheaper ones so the amount they could reduce the subscription by not offering you E! Entertainment or ESPN or Discovey or Sky News would not be worth the confusion of offering multiple options.

As far as I know you can't have a PVR subscription on anything other than the Premium Package...

OIC i was wondering why someone would split it up and i never knew you could.

So can you get just premium without mnet?

I was wondering the same thing, but i have a funny feeling you can't...it goes hand in hand with the analogue sub,me thinks.

The original benefit was so you could watch mnet on one tv set and dstv on another as it predated dual view decoders.

As for the weather - we got dstv because whenever there was a strong wind it shifted our tv arial and we lost the analogue signal :o

You mean without?

I just want compact with MNET. But what's the point if you pay the same as if it were Premium .

Only if you have it seperate. I don't think you can just cancel MNET because what's the point of compact then. It's just strange that Compact costs the same as Premium with all those extra channels while MNET alone costs more than both.

Yeah - without.

Then compact doesnt really cost the same as premium. Premium is r499, compact is r219 and Mnet analogue is [-]whatever it is[/-] R269.00.

Most people wouldnt want to get compact and mnet analogue. Its really not a subscription that makes much sense with the newer decoders and their dual view capabilities.

Bwana forget about the new decoders it does nt make much sense to have compact and mnet costing the same as dstv premium.

King dude i am sure what you mean, my question was pretty straight forward as was the answer.

No, what doesnt make sense to me is wanting compact and analogue mnet when for an extra r11 you can have Premium.
