DSTV Compact and MNET

Yeah - without.

Then compact doesnt really cost the same as premium. Premium is r499, compact is r219 and Mnet analogue is [-]whatever it is[/-] R269.00.

Well the point is the 50 or whatever number of channels( -MNET) in Premuim costs the same as the far fewer channels you get with Compact

No, what doesnt make sense to me is wanting compact and analogue mnet when for an extra r11 you can have Premium.

Obviously but it shouldn't cost the same. For R11 you're getting all those extra channels. Compact and MNET should cost substantially less than Premium.

Multichoice has to keep the MNet price artificially inflated to milk the MNet only people out there. Its great being a monopoly.

How about this, I call in and ask for DSTV premium with Mnet analog split but i tell the guy that my analog decoder is not setup yet and can i call back in and let them know when they can start charging the analog subs... You think they would? And i only get charged +-R200 for premium excl mnet?

I dont have hope, but its worth a shot...

That's a HELL NO!!!

And for everyone else. DStv Premium includes M-Net. You can't have Premium without M-Net.

And DStv Compact is not that bad. Basically all M-Net shows repeat that same week on M-Net Action or M-Net Series. Dirty Sexy Money, Grey's Anatomy, The Mentalist, 90210, Prison Break, Samantha Who?, 30 Rock, My Name Is Earl, Desperate Housewives etc, all repeat on M-Net Series, with Lost, Boston Legal, ER, House, etc premiering. Burn Notice and Dexter, and soon also season 2 of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and season 7 of 24 (!!!!!!) premiering on M-Net Action!!!
And with DStv Compact you get to watch M-Net from 18:00 to 19:00 everyday (but while Idols is on M-Net you can watch that from 17:30 to 19:00 on Sunday and from 19:00 to 19:30 on Monday)

I was really considering cancelling M-Net and downgrading my Premium to DSTV compact.
But I got sidetracked and PVR'd my house.
Dammit. Really need to save some time and money.
No more time with a PVR apart from TV time which is from getting home from work up until 1am. This bloody TV is not yet a HD set but my addiction is a bit strong and my willpower getting weaker as each day passes.

Mayb lightning will hit the TV and Decoder and I'll sleep early and not bother about the evil one-eyed monster.

Taking a look at it it makes complete sense. Except for one BIG issue. The kids channel is Cartoon Network which is like the McDonalds of kids TV. Its OK to let them have it every now and then but definitely not on a daily basis. I would rather have CBeebies which is like the fresh fruit and veg of kids TV.

Also I am not sure I could live without supersport 1, and soccer is not my kettle of fish.

Losing cbeebies is the only downside for me too but I can probably load up the pvr with enough content to keep the kids happy for quite some time.

DSTV Select has the Action and Series channels, and KTV all Day.
but
On 1 April 2009 the K-All Day channel on DStv will be replaced by a new baby and toddler channel called Koowee, and will mainly broadcast English and Afrikaans programmes, with Zulu programmes to be implemented at a later stage.
and there is no PVR option. :o

Someone earlier said you can't have PVR with Compact and in fact you can...

We ran our PVR for the first few months on the compact and then decided to move over to premium eventually...

I don't *have* kids, but I grew up with CN. I still catch myself watching Forster's home of imaginary friends sometimes. Anyway. CN is on 24/7, K-all day wasn't. Don't know why they called it that. . . Actually, I wouldn't let my kids watch CN, the stuff they have on there sometimes is totally disturbing and retarted. Hmm... That may actually explain a lot of things in my life.

If this is true iam gonna get Compact cause the wife wants her soapies and I can wacth some other stuff.

On which channel do you watch Mnet between 6-7 pm or is mnet just "unscrambled" in that timeslot as in the past?

I'm one of the Mnet-only people, and I still don't get why Multichoice can't give you Mnet only through a dish. Getting decent reception with the analogue was a bitch. Wonder how things will change when (eventually) new competitors put their products on the market.

yes, M-Net is unscrambled on channel 101 between 18:00 and 19:00 for all compact and easyview subscribers. Last Monday night though after idols they "forgot" to scramble M-Net again, so I was able to watch movies and stand-up comedy until Tuesday at 19:00. This happens sometimes.
