not looking for online places.

thanks
D

Go to Builders Express they sell everything you need and was the cheapest for cable when I was looking

+1 @web, was just going to say the same! Well for most of it at least, I actually found that Samsat cabling at Spar was way cheaper than Builders Express.

thanks guys. That's interesting as I've had a few bad pricing experiences with them and swear I would never buy from them...I'll take a drive later and see what they have.

In terms of pricing at space tv and ellies....are they decent?

Yea but I bought a whole roll on the drum as I needed quite a bit a bit of cable and it worked out much cheaper like that. So when you start adding extra TV's you don't have to keep on going buying bits and pieces of cable.

Damn... if you going to buy a whole drum, then go to an electrical wholesaler, that would definitely save you a buck or two!

I did go to an electrical wholesaler but still got it cheapest from Builders Express they will also do the Makro/Game thing and beat someone else's price if you ask nicely. ;)

Wow.. impressive! I'm used to getting good discounts though - probably why! Both my brothers buy a lot from Voltex, so they give us good prices!

Just on this topic, where can one get the best price for a SATCR LNB or any LNBs for that matter? I know about SpaceTV, but not sure how their prices compare to anybody else.

I just took a drive to space tv. prices arent bad so just bought the stuff I needed.

Spoke to Zaktronics and they were closed at 12:00 - 14:00 on Fridays for Mosque so decided to check out Space TV.

service and quick and efficient so will definitely go back there.

Space in durban sells the SATCR LNB for R1000 to the public. However the price for dealers is R599 + vat.
Samsat doesn't sell to the public but dealers price is also R599 + vat.

I knew someone who buys from Samsat so I got it at cost :D

I'm going to try and upgrade our dish at our complex so that I don't have t install yet another dish.

I'm confused as to what to get, I see on the Ellies website that there are several different quad LNB's
4x4 LNB (10.7GHz) LNBU4
4x4 LNB (10.6GHz)LNBU410.6
Quad LNB (10.7GHz)LNBQ

So what is the difference ? Currently there is a dual LMB that my neighbor uses.

You need a 4x4 with a 10.7 GHz L.O. (local oscillator) for the high band. So the first one on your list. The second one has a 10.6 GHz L.O. which is not right for the IS7 satellite.

The third one is probably a dedicated output LNB. Don't know why Ellies changed the terms. The rest of us call it a Quattro and we call the 4x4 a Quad.

Its a bit nasty that they don't have a "Dstv kit", its not rocket science and I don't even need to align the dish. I'm just going to swap the LNB and run cables down to my unit.

I called an installer, he wanted to charge me R1600 to upgrade the LNB and refused to even touch the existing multiswitch.
The best he could do is R900 for a new dish with 1 LMB and I don't want that because it looks flippen ugly with 10 dishes on each wall.

Thanks for the help

For some reason it is cheaper to buy "installation vouchers" from Makro, Game, Hifi Corp, etc instead of contacting installers directly. I bought an upgrade voucher from standard single view to two port LNB with multiswitch for R1100 from Hifi Corp, where the cheapest quote from an installer was R1450 for that upgrade. Funnily enough, one of the local installers (with high quotes) generally does the installation. Where does the money go? Hifi Corp takes a profit; Ellies/whoever takes a profit for co-ordinating it and lastly the installer will not do it at a loss. Doesn't make sense, but it works. Unless I am missing something big here.

The installers are being ripped off when doing voucher work, but a lot of them are desperate.
