Then what are you basing your comment on? I haven't kept a record, but all my satellite decoders have lasted for many years. My Explora for example was purchased on launch date (13.08.13) and is still going strong.

The thing is a fire hazard, it can cook an egg under a minute. But I still love watching IPL and BBC ... so hard to pirate those channels

Yeh, 'cos this is what I did.
Not to mention the mission of having to go to the repair center and trying to explain to them what's wrong.
Most of the time they just want to sell you a new one.
