DStv Drifta USB decoder launched

Any idea what the Res is of this? The other drifta had a tiny resolution, and was pretty useless.

Still waiting for the Android App and they give us this??? Multichoice is seriously not serious!

Coding for win is a lot easier than coding for android......and more people have pc`s anyway.

+1 on wondering what the resolution is......no point if it looks crappy......

the resolution will be the same as the first one. Remember it is Digital Video Broadcast for HANDSETS. The issue is if the software will allow you to click "Full Screen" or not. The software seems to block it. Multichoice's response was that the prevent this so that they can preserve their video quality. If I am away from home and have a Drifta on my laptop, should it not be my choice if I want to watch full screen at a lower resolution? just saying..

Resolution on any new drifta gadget coming out will not change in a very long time...

sorry don't watch a lot of sports which is what it is intended for.

Does anyone know if this can be made to work under linux? Mythtv perhaps?

The resolution will not change, they are running at the max that the protocol supports.

DSTV need to urgently fix the signal distribution. There is basically no signal in Centurion (do not trust the coverage map). Unless this device supports an external antenna you will have to do what most other users did and build your own antenna and test it out until you get some signal some of the time.

Res is absolutely horse ****, dont get coverage here in East London which granted isnt exactly the biggest city in ZA but its still a Metro???

Lets walk around with a home made antenna and some tinfoil wrapped around our domes and wait for the second coming!

The resolution is horrible period.

That's very true, however, as a way to keep in touch with sport events where you have no TV (and often radio) available, it is a very effective digital radio with tiny preview picture. It's not a replacement for full blown DSTV but never has been intended as that.

New devices and apps being released while the promised support of the original drifta for Blackberry, Android and Nokia is still not here really burns. So much for burning the midnight oil and throwing all possible resources into getting that sorted.

Bulldust on the below quote:

“The Drifta USB has been launched to address the needs of customers who primarily want to use their PCs and laptops for viewing. Based on the positive response we received from the Drifta, we wanted to come up with something more affordable and exclusive to devices with USB ports.”

The wifi version was supposed to work with any smartphone, and they haven't got this working so they covering up th

The more I think about it the less this product makes sense.

1) The original drifta supports USB connections AND Wifi connections. I would wager that 99% of non-iPhone and iPad users use the USB connection ALREADY.
2) Does this device even have a battery in it? The original has a battery that lasts about 3 hours.
3) I need to balance my Drifta on the curtain railing and connect an external antenna to it to get signal, it won't be as easy to do that with this version.

They should have rather worked on the signal distribution and on supporting more platforms.
