DStv Drifta USB decoder launched

USB 1 ?

HI

I am using a pc with usb 1 (d o not laugth) as media centre for kidz (to CRT tv . . . .). :)
Wil drifta work over with only usb 1?

Glad that they added Mnet series just a month after i suggested it, I would also prefer if they maybe added Vuzu as well.

The resolution is for mobile viewing guys so i don't understand what the complaining is about (its crystal clear on my 3.5 inch cellphone screen)

Doesn't a usb version make it worst in terms of connecting to all devices ? I guesses that wifi will support more devices or maybe I'm just too suspicious of multichoice.

The resolution will not change, they are running at the max that the protocol supports.

DSTV need to urgently fix the signal distribution. There is basically no signal in Centurion (do not trust the coverage map). Unless this device supports an external antenna you will have to do what most other users did and build your own antenna and test it out until you get some signal some of the time.

The resolution for what it's intended for is OK but the FPS can easily be upped to 25FPS and then watching sport or high motion video will be OK.

Can the free e.mobile tv services be accessed with the drifta if you do not take the subscription?

As one of the very first Drifta users I've had to experiment with the thing a lot in the beginning to compensate for reception problems. Reception is so unreliable in my experience that I will not consider a USB decoder that cannot be moved around to improve reception. The wi-fi decoder is a must as it can be placed where reception is reliable and one can sit and watch anywhere within range.

I am not sure that it can be easily upgraded. Higher FPS would require higher channel bandwidth which comes back to the protocol.

+1

I suggest you look into getting a USB 2 slot-in card since you can then transfer files 30x faster to and from USB devices.

Spending resources on this while still promising to have a launch date for android?

I agree but the full allocated spectrum is not used, and if one does away with "nonsense" channels thereby increasing bandwidth then there won't be bandwidth issues as the protocol can handle 25FPS.

I am sure we all wish that they would do away with the "nonsense" channels and improve the picture on the other channels. Unfortunately I don't see this happening any time soon. Even though I agree that it is technically possible, there might be some reasons why it can't be done.

I just wish they made it free to Premium subscribers, I don't mind paying for the drifta unit but to still have to cough up a subscription fee on top of the 600 for dstv + extra for hd pvr + extra for drifta is a bit much
