new to the forum, so hello to everybody. need some advice. I know there is this delay with the release of Drifta for Android, but should I go for the original drifta or this new usb one?

If i'm not mistaken, the "new" one is -only- USB. The "old" one is Wifi -and- USB , hence why it is cheaper. So i would most likely still go for the original one, the wifi part is great since you can put the device anywhere in your house and whichever wifi device you want to hook up is good to go.

Took it over there on Friday and managed to solve the problem myself whilst talking to one of the help guys.
Turns out the Onavo data shrinking app on my iphone installed an APN profile that was interfering somehow with the drifta. As soon as I deleted the profile the phone connected and could play channels. Weird, since it's meant to be wifi only, but there must have been some interference somewhere...

How / where did you find the APN. I have the same problem. I do not have Onavo installed nor any other profiles

quick help guys. if my dad is a premium subscriber, and I'm using the extra view attached to his account, can I activate the drifta on his behalf, or what do I need to do to have it activated? ie do I need a smart card number, ID number or account number? please help

They will need to verify his details, so make sure you have his ID number & address handy, unlikely they will require smartcard or account number but maybe get those just in case

anybody help? scanning, no channels found, how can I get this sorted on the drifta? please please lol

Your profile should be on the default service provider settings that get sent to your phone when you insert a new simcard into your phone. In our case Onavo replaced our default profile with it's own proxy profile. This somehow clashed with the drifta.

Go to General/network/cellular data network/ and see what your APN is set to. I'm on Mtn so it says mymtn. Try reset settings, otherwise maybe try settings/phone/sim applications/updates/download - maybe that will resend your carrier settings, I'm not too sure on that.

If that doesnt work then maybe your drifta isn't activated? Did you test the drifta on your pc? If it works on your pc then it's probably an iPhone issue that should probably be solved doing what we did :P

1. Reset the drifta device and make sure the lights are correct
2. Reset your wifi connection to the drifta on your pc/phone [as in reconnect ]
3. Make sure you are in fact connecting to the drifta and not to any other wifi router
4. Reset the application / open close etc.

If all that fails:
5. Go to the DSTV website, log in, and check your status and send a "reset code" or "reinitialize code" to your drifta. There is a place for that.

any chance it could be, that i need to download the latest firmware version? i seem to have v. 1.1 and not V 1.3?

well if u updated the software then yes as the new software wont work with the older firmware but i would recommend sticking with old firmware as u can do so much more

what do you mean, that i could do so much more? is there something i can use with the older software, where i could adjust the picture size to full screen?

well yes screen and you can use it on a jailbroken ipad or iphone etc... i read about people able to stream from it
but once u update firmware then u stuffed u can't go back

hi you need to maybe google it just look for the download link for the decoder.exe file and then u replace the file
and u good to go

absolutely ridiculous, that its nearly September and still no Android App. Remember this was announced in 2010, for release in April 2011. There are many people, who bought Android devices, in order to take advantage of the Drifta. Not everybody can afford an iPhone, or could back then. You could get cheaper Android phones, which made the Drifta a more appealing to consumers.

Also, its worth noting, that Nokia had something like 60% market share, so why was Nokia not used to test the software. Its also worth mentioning AGAIN, that iPad could make use of the Drifta, yet it had hardly been released in SA, and in fact iPhone were few and far between consumers. You either had to be a boss, or had to earn loads of money to afford one.

The fact it was released for iPhone, says that the developers are Apple Fan Boys. It shouldn’t be that difficult to release an Android app, by just copying the iPhone app and replacing the file as an .apk file.

More importantly, the lack of a statement says that there is probably no announcement on when the app will be made available. If the devs were so confident of a release soon, then why not man up and say it will be ready on specific date? I have sent DSTV mobile an email on 2 or 3 occasions, and each time I got the same response about the app being available soon. Automated reply perhaps! You cannot say, the app will be available in April, then nothing. Then say its nearly completed, but cannot commit to a set date. It really smacks of unprofessionalism, when a company with such high volume of consumers, are treated in such a bad way.

Simple statement DSTV, when will the Android app be available? What is the current situation regarding the progress of the app? Simple straight answers, but please don’t come with this bull of the app will be available soon…
