Prices should have dropped with the strong rand. How many years was a weak rand the excuse for price increases?

I also had a look at Sky TV in New Zealand - they have similar monthly costs, and also only a limited amount of HD - channels seems similar. So I think we are in line with these countires. I just wonder how the Multichoice profits look?

Sport is a problem..

Yea but stop moaning because for 600 rand their sport is absolutely amazing, we see more sport than the UK.

600 rand for a month full of just about any sport is well worth the dosh. I know i can spend about what 10-15 hours a week watching sport, sometimes more depending on the time of year. Find me something even close to that value for money :D.

F1
motogp
soccer
cricket

If you don't watch sport then it seems a total waste. I cannot imagine a life without supersport and i would rather pay a premium for good coverage than pay cheap for very limited coverage. You can stream sporting events live as well for free. So moan with your money.

R 20.00 a day, i spend more than that on cigi's .

Smart.

Put up prices, stand a chance to lose more customers.
Further put up prices to compensate for loss of customers.

Whereas they could:
Lower prices to attract new customers.
Add services using money gained from attracting more customers.
Repeat above.

But alas.

's why I won't give them any of my money.

The sport is the thing keeping me subscribed. If you don't do sport, then DSTV is a waste of money.

If it wasnt for those pesky kids and their Disney Channels I'd have dropped DSTV long ago. :o

Very simply put: As soon as DSTV hits the cost of a normal uncapped account, I think their business model is dead. Until then they will try to get as much money as possible out of it, as they really don't have much time left.

You cant possibly compare ADSL to DSTV, its not the same thing ffs. Where do u find torrents for sport for example HMMM ??

People need to be creative with ways to beat DSTV in their game. Neighbours can pool resources, enable dual view & share a subscription. Flip, run cables over fence. Someone out there is bound to find a solution that can exploit loopholes in MultiChoice's service agreement/terms of use.

ADSL is not an acronym for "torrents" lad. Ever heard of live streaming, yes the quality is sad but at least it's better than nothing!

Checklist for when I have kids:

1. Make sure they never find out about DSTV
2. Make sure they never visit friends who have found out about DSTV
3. Move to Kalahari to farm sheep.
4. Dammit there is nothing to do in the Kalahari
5. Get DSTV

or GET ADSL

To go through the pain and suffering of streaming a tiny window to your tv is not worth the hassle at all. And good luck finding a stream every single time u wanna watch something. Series/ movies no problem, but sport, yeah right.

So like i said dont compare a tree to a horse, they completely different. (For the moment anyway). Wish we had a streaming option trust me!

Im not saying its not possible to find streams. But to find one in your language and the event you are looking for is not the same as switching on the tv and watching in full HD with 5.1 sound with no hassle at all. If you happy watching streams, then cool, save the cash. I for one dont mind paying for HD sport. Id love to scrap the other rubbish channels and pay less, but this is SA and monopolies rule.

Yes, I totally agree. ADSL is much better.

Here is the thing: The ONLY reason I'm still on DSTV is the sport and it's becoming more and more difficult to justify the cost associated with DSTV just for sport, as I am already spending more time on internet based content than on anything MNET / DSTV produces. This is even not torrents -- The amount of legal content is growing exponentially on the internet: Youtube is only a very, very small part of it.

Monopolies survive because we allow them. Stop supporting them.

If more people demanded the product delivered to them in a certain way, and less people supported the monopoly, it would happen.

But it's not gonna happen while sheep hand over all their cash to the monopoly company.

Take a stand.

Just keep quiet and pay up like we usually do. Don't forget your vaseline before you bend over and let dstv have their way with you...

Well SuperSport must now pay Victor - and after listening to the first game - I think they must get their money back - that idiot is useless. Anyways - how many experts does it take now to broadcast a game - jeesh

ditto all the previous years remarks...
