Telkom used to be in this boat, thinking they were untouchable. Now look at them, pretty much bankrupt if the fine imposed on them takes place.

But then again Telkom is infested with ANC corruption and mentality so no surprise there.

So yeah MC, enjoy it............ WHILE IT LASTS

No really viable alternative to DSTV. They have us over a barrel and we have no option but to roll with the punches!

There is always an option.... Take it or leave it.

If you take it, then you are only perpetuating the monopoly and then you have no right to complain.

^^ this .... telkom was needed until the mobile operators started to take over ...
and DSTV will soon lose out to better technology, hopefully triple play or some sort of streaming .....
speaking of which ... what happened to the 3rd broadcaster that was going to use triple play??

I'm sorry gary but watching a torrent of a game after it's happened is just bloody stupid.

Streaming sports LOL, please that is a total nightmare and the quality is so kuk you don't want to watch it.

Say what you like but the sports on dstv is world class and not many networks have the amount of sport dstv offers. In the states you have pay per view which is kuk expensive. I saw something like 30 dollars for a boxing fight.

We see just about every popular sport live and it's good quality and for a little more it is hd quality.

Trying to argue that 600 is a lot for all the sport they cover is a fail in my opinion. I don't think 600 rand is a rip off for the amount of sport they cover. If you don't watch sport and you don't want to pay the 600 rand then cancel. Simple.

I don't watch any other channels, i download all the other stuff so without sport dstv would be gone but i cannot imagine spending hours trying to find a stream for a soccer game and when i do find one it's tiny and the quality is so shyte i would not want watch it.

You keep watching and supporting the monopoly then... but just remember, those are not "World Class Prices" you are paying for that privilege. :D
And just remember also that the longer you support the monopoly, the harder it is for any other newcomer to break in and win the rights to broadcast sport in SA.
Not when DSTV goes in and abuses their monopoly position to shut the other guys out from even bidding to host the sport.
We'll talk again in a few years time when you are paying R1500 a month to watch your world class sport. ;)

I'm sorry, but what?

Minimum wage in SA: 1625.70 for Domestic Workers (Domestic worker, Area A)
Amount to pay to see our national teams play: 36% of wage.

So only the rich have the privilege to watch our national teams compete.

Really people. Stop with the rape analogies. You guys obviously haven't been affected by an actual rape.

That is the bailed out SABC's fault. They used to be able to afford the rights, but now they are a joke. Not a DStv problem.

not exactly
goverment is at fault for almost everything. if they had ruling bodies in place long time ago then none of the eishkom's, telscum's, monochoice's, etc. would have raped this country this far.

can clearly see that you have not been "raped" by anything yet. excuse the pun
you are obviously well off and don't feel it where it hurts dude

Why is everybody so shocked every time April comes around and DStv increase their prices?

It hurts me just as much as everyone else, but they have been doing this as long as they have existed. Don't know why this is newsworthy at all.

Whoever wrote the article must be enjoying the fireworks from afar with a box of popcorn in hand.

I can also see that you and/or a family member have not been raped before...

I think this is the year I dig my heels in and move to Top TV for while due to the dross DSTV have served up for the past year and what seems to be more of the same in the coming year - this increase is unjustifiable.

I also don't see why I should continue to subsidise the sports fanatics when I seldom watch any, come to think of it I rarely find anything of interest on any of the channels above 120.

Edit: Another thing, the advertising has become downright intrusive in the past year plus it seems to be synchronised across my favourite channels

It's being used in a metaphorical sense to express our moral outrage and sense of being taken advantage of by these corporations that embody in a corporate sense everything that an actual rapist possesses in a physical sense. Learn to understand the difference. And quit defending the Corporate rapists.

It is a stupid comparison. Call them corporate thieves if you like, but rapists... WTF? They are not forcing you to do anything.
