The new Explora, which goes on sale in mid-October, with the old one to be phased out, does not support 4K broadcasts.
Let them sort out their inconsistent sound on the decoders, and introduce full HD (1080p), then I'll be motivated to purchase one. For now, pass the hell on![]()
1TB against 2TB previously
The day when 7de Laan is on ketchup , I will get one.
It does look much smaller which is nice but they are still greedy, they could've added Wi-Fi but why would they since they sell that separately.

Why add Wi-Fi? Just another service that will strain the already under capacity processor in these things .....
Because I would like to connect to the internet to use Showmax and Catch Up without having to buy another thing I have to connect.
Do you live in a apartment?Use a cable connection, better than Wi-Fi anyway.
Use a cable connection, better than Wi-Fi anyway. AND BTW, you do not need to use the DSTV wi fi extender either -- you can use any equivalent device. The DSTV one is not particularly good in terms of performance either.
The decoder business is so low cost that anything extra just causes the whole box to develop a serious case of data indigestion.
Where did you hear it uses HEVC, because I highly doubt it.
Only real "improvement" announced is this change from DVB S2 (H.264) to DVB-S2X (H.265)
Plus a few other technicalities:
1. More user bands and frequencies available
2. In-built diplexer to simplify XV installations
3. Smaller HDD ( cost saving exercise)
4. 1080p capable (a sw change in the main)
Sounds like the new iPhoneBecause I would like to connect to the internet to use Showmax and Catch Up without having to buy another thing I have to connect.
Please link me to where this was announced, because if HEVC is going to be used and we can get 1080P that's something I find interesting.
It unfortunately does NOT mean that all channels will now suddenly be available in 1080p or that all channels will now start using the better compression technology. A migration process will start with certain channels now being transmitted in 1080p and IF MC does introduce a UHD, then the new compression technology will be used for that channel.
In the meantime, MC says it will use the new compression technology for CU plus downloads over the Internet IF you have a Explora 2A decoder.
