DStv Explora HD PVR decoder now available

Even if I still had DSTV I wouldn't touch this thing with a 10 foot barge pool.
 
If I had the money, I would go out to Makro right now and buy it! I see they have a launch special for R2399.00. I unfortunately only get my bonus at the end of September, so I will most probably have to wait a bit longer. I was also the 2nd person in our town that got the HD PVR when it was first launched just before the Beijing Olympics. If I resided a bit closer to the installer, I would have been the first!

I don't see anything that warrants a R1000 increase in price over the previous gen.
 
The fact that it doesn't have 4 tuners makes it a step backwards, for my use at least.
 
My 4tuner HD PVR is still better specced than this rubbish
 
i've had one for about 2 weeks ( dont ask) and its actually not that bad i hardly record anything anymore, its all on catchup :) the need for extra tuners , doesnt bug me as much , technically it has 3 , 1 record , 1 watch, and a 3rd dedicated for VOD
 
Dont forget that it doesn't seem to have a LNB connection at the back, so those without the digital satellite connection need converters.

We should send this thing to japan or somewhere and get those bored teenagers over there to reverse engineer the code and remove that VOD schit! We can ask them to change it into a tuner to connect to another TV!

No they don't.

It comes with a Unicable which connects to a box which accepts your different cables from either your multiswitch or LNB directly

That's fine if you want to watch what MC decides to make available on catch-up. But I will hold on to my 4-tuner Pace for as long as possible, as we can record two channels simultaneously while watching another. And that recorded content will be of our choice, not the choice of some reality-show-fanbooi at MC
 
WTF is DSTV smoking!

Instead of investing in future products like online streaming content, they can only think like retards.
 
Would have been a better sell had they included more details on the plans for the network connection. At present it is more pie in the sky - which could well become vapourware like the 'future use' USB ports.
