DStv Explora measured up against DStv HD PVR

3 tuners but one viewing and one recording enviroment. MC engineers are smoking Mugabe 's ashes before he passes. This decoder is useless hence I am sticking to my SD PVR and old HD PVR. I can never trade my three (3) concurrent viewing and recording for this piece of sheet.
 
3 tuners at the back, i take it no extraview then or SATCR LNB is a must?

Nope.. the only time my PVR has an issue is when MC decide to do random software updatse.

Agreed ... I currently have the Pace 4T unit, and the ability to watch 2 (i.e. with xtraview) as well as record 2x user-choice programs was useful.

As far as I know this "explora" (whyTF do they have to use 'gangsta'-type names?) will only allow 1 x recording by the subscriber

For me this is one giant leap backwards in subscriber 'wants' .. but Hey! ... When has MCA ever listened to their paying customers?
 
LOL, R1000 for extra hard drive space and probably only because they want to offer more movies on box office to make more money per subscriber... :wtf:
 
My HD PVR is crap. But it's less crap after this latest software update.

However, I'm now still missing a few of my HD channels and our complex's "dstv man" has decided that he first wants a big pay-off before anything will be fixed.

Just feel like throwing it out the window and cancelling my subscription.
 
@ Jan, why is the SD recording for this shown as "N/A"?
 
@Jan, A correction for your table, the Pace HD-PVR 4P has:
  • 2 x USB ports (one front, one rear)
  • 1 x SATA port
  • 100 x software bugs
 
So, still no PVR that has dual-view capability from the same playlist like the SD PVR. This is why I'm still hanging on to my SD PVR: shared playlist between both viewing environments.

I read somewhere that MC discontinued the dual view decoders because too many clients shared the second environment with the neighbors for a fee. That is why you have a heartbeat cable with a maximum lenght (+-30m, iirc) running between xtraview decoders as well: to make sure one decoder doesn't find it's way to Frikkie down the street.

Have a look at the back Explora, it has three at the back and one in front - there's a little flap that opens up which covers the smart card slot as well as the front USB port.

I tried to point out the inconstancy wrt the USB ports he listed as well.

There's numerous pics of the new Explora out, it has 3 usb ports at the back and 1 in front.
 
The ethernet and USB ports are still disabled ?

Are. you. ****ing . kidding. me. DSTV ? Head still up the arse ?

Also, who thinks up these laughable names for the devices ?

walkA , driftA , explorA . It reminds me of a 11 y/o mxit kid's vocabulary, way to go Multifail.
 
Correct me if I am wrong, but I only see a single connection for a LNB on the back.

The 3 there are RF IN, RF OUT and the LNB connection.

Is this a SATCR only decoder then?
