So long story short. I decided to get the decoder and free installation for R499 from DSTV and activate the access or easy view package. I had an old DSTV installation that was very old and no longer working so the promo seemed like a good deal as I can always just switch off the decoder package on the app and I have the installation done and I also have an old openview decoder I could use.

Disaster.

Got the decoder in 2 days. Contacted an accredited installer as advised by the DSTV website and they said they can do it next day. Cool They arrive do the installation take photos of the install and decoder serial numbers activates the package and install on their portal they have with Multichoice and they left. Very profession job and my install is done. So I thought.

An hour later they call and advise the voucher is not working. The decoder is coming back on the Multichoice system as a decoder only no installation. I forward them the email and they insist.

I call DSTV and the lady assisting says the normal price without install is R499 with current promo R299 and normal price with install is R899 and R499 now on promo. She thinks the warehouse sent me a normal decoder and not the install included ones.

Now the install is done they can't take back the decoder. The installer is calling me every hour wanting R1100 from me for the install.

This is a problem I didn't want but with DSTV it's never easy it seems.

Tell them to contact DSTV, if the installer comes out without checking the voucher that's a them problem, not a you problem surely.

So I thought but the installer said they can only submit the claim after they can't check it and went on to say that they installed it at my premises so I remain liable for the install if the voucher can't be claimed.

I mean I can't even block them and tell them to go fly they know where I live.

Can you take it up with the company you purchased the decoder from? Maybe they've got an installation voucher kicking around for another demo unit in-store.

Well I guess if Multichoice's vouchers don't work they should try cash! They made the cock-up they must sort it out.
