DStv going after IPTV operators and other pirates

But did they actually seize records from Waka or just the local resellers? I mean, I doubt local resellers will have too much info on hand other than local SA users and co-resellers, so can we really call that a major victory? When maybe, what, 2000 people used the services? If they can't nail Waka themselves which I doubt they will be able to do due to derestriction, it is mostly just a fluff piece to pat themselves on the back and an attempt at scare tactics.

They might have got enough to make a few worms wriggle uncomfortably, tho I don't see much profit in that, and could just increase the anti- DSTV sentiments, that already exist. Scare tactics - yes.

You've missed much about this - no SA users are announced as under investigation. Just speculation.

If I was them, I would keep this under wraps, as they are "advertising" to the greater public, that alternatives to their premium priced service exist. People who have been blissfully unaware of such options, till now.

Goodbye DSTV

While there are several IPTV streaming services illegally offering live DStv channels to South Africans at a fraction of their regular prices, Waka TV has emerged as one of the most popular options.

Why the fuk would anyone want to watch live DSTV channels with all the adverts?

Er, Supersport?

The reasons I pay an IPTV provider a fifth of what you're paying DStv every month:

Premier League, and by Premier League I mean Liverpool
Champions League, and by Champions League I mean Liverpool
Occasional Euros
MotoGP
WSBK
F1
WEC
Indy, Daytona and a couple of US races.
International Rugby
Local Rugby
Occasional 7s Rugby
Golf, PGA mind you, never that LIV shyte,
Cycling (nine days to go, whoop whoop!)
America's Cup
NFL
Will almost certainly watch some of the Olympics this year.

I literally use the service for sport and sport only.
