Well, for starters, which sports, are must have and which are "filler" as the market clearly cannot support exclusive rights, which DSTV resell to all and sundry in Sub Saharan Africa, plus the funds they get for the ever increasing amount of advertising, which they do not give away for free. They could also let someone else buy the exclusive rights, and buy a reseller package, instead.

Just as the Rand is useless overseas it is just as useless here in South Africa, and we do not have any other currency we can use.

Sure he gets paid by his Union, but not for "copyrighted and expensive to create content".

The same applies to Max Verstappen who, within his sporting code, drives a car. The same also applies to Pecco Bagnaia, Jonas Vingegaard, Rory McIlroy and more.

What I'm doing doesn't deprive any of these folks of income... It simply bypasses a decrepid dinosaur's monopoly in terms of a regional restriction designed to ringfence profit for the benefit of it's shareholders.

Mostly agree, but who would get the exclusive rights if not them? Nobody big enough, and DStv has only got some of the content at all due to their strong efforts to protect content - some suppliers don't otherwise want to hear about any African deals.

One I had, and I might get it again, gave you a choice, SD, HD, FULL HD, and HEVC, not sure where the HEVC fits into the scheme of things, tho. Subscription is about to expire, if nothing significantly better comes along I will re-subscribe.

As well as the Sky and TNT 4K channel. Both have a single 4K channel.

Is it wise for DSTV to publicaly advertise that such services exist, to the public at large. In my experience, a very small number of people are aware that these services exist. Fewer know how to subscribe to them and the devices that are suitable for a worthwhile experience.

The general economic climate in South Africa is not good, by any stretch of the imagination. Hence the big hallaboo about Temu and Shein.

So take your pick.

Thing is big business has some weird ideas. For instance the presumed new owner Canal+ is mostly just interested in reaching elsewhere in Africa with French content so far, they could decide to dump or sell some of MC.

Doubtful, but I'm sure they're working on it... they will end up owning Irdeto as well of course.
