Hi

I tried searching but no specific answer to my problem...

Anyway i have a dish with SD decoder running at home and want to self-install the new HD decoder...

Is it as simple as connecting a dual-lnb (difficult?) and running the two cables into the new decoder?

Cheers

Id recommend doing what I did.Buy a SatCR LNB (which is more expensive than a regular dual LNB, but about the same price is you add the cost of the dual LNB and the splitter). Then you only need one cable going to the HDPVR, so you can use your existing cable and you dont have to install another cable. Then you just have to change the HDPVR to 'SatCR' mode when it starts up.

Another great thing about the SatCR LNB is that it does have another place to plug in another cable for if you want to use the XtraView with a regular SD decoder

Hope this helps, and let me know if there's still something you want to know

Hi. The self installation is not particularly difficult, however it is not as simple as you describe. A little more info is required about the way you want to connect your setup. Do you plan to connect both decoders and enable extra view? In any event, if you are connecting a HDPVR with/without a single view decoder, you have two options.
1. Twin LNB with a 2 to 4 multiswitch, or a 2 to 6 way multiswitch if you want to connect both decoders. NB The HDPVR needs 4 inputs.
2. SatCR LNB: Probably the easier option. Allows you to connect the LNB to the HDPVR using one cable only and there is a spare output from the LNB to run a SD decoder.

I have done option 2. Took 20 mins. Simply change the LNB ensuring that the tilt angle is set at 50 degrees (Use the existing LNB as a guide), plug in the wire to the LNB and the other end to the HDPVR. (Port 2)

If you want to connect the SD decoder that you will need to run a second cable.

Either way, the install should cost you less than R1000.

Also, chech out the DSTV forums. This topic has been discussed many times there.

Good luck.

Hi

Thx for the responses, seems like the SatCR is the way to go (price, and where to buy?), im not too fussed with running my SD decoder. What i will do is run the LNB into the new cheapie HD decoder and run a HDMI splitter to feed my two tv's, one in my room and one in the living room. I dont need dualview

Cheers

its very easy..
basicaly mark exactly where your curent LNB is (skew is about 45' angle) and place the twin LNB exactly where the old one is. good idea to test on your old decoder if its getting signal here.
then run antother lnb cable and bobs your uncle you are done :)

depends on what you need the Satcr is qute expensive you only need a twin from what you describe.
a satcr is about R829 a twin is about R300
i buy from here http://www.zaktronics.co.za/

Guys depends on what hd decoder he is buying, if he is buying the curent one a Satcr or twin with spliter is needed.
if he is buying the new ones comming out only a twin is needed.

Buying the new cheapie one, cheers

A SaTCR LNB should set you back approx R800-R900. Bought mine from Zaktronics. Just Google them.
Ive also come across Space TV. Seems many people use these guys as well.

thx for the info all, now we just need to find a place with stock of the new decoders!

Hmm Ok this is gonna be expensive....

I need to split the HDMI to my two LCD's. Problem is the splitter and 20m cable i need will cost R1600 or so :O.

The far-tv has an xbox running into the component HD jacks. the LCD has this: S-Video, VGA, Y PrPb, Y CrCb, HDMI x 2, SCART. So i can only use the hdmi jack to watch HD?

Cheers

yep rather buy a twin lnb tand save.
as for the tv you can also use the Y PrPb, Y CrCb for HD (or is that only for the close TV) , I figure those extension cables are way cheaper then HDMI?

1x2 HDMI splitter - R569 http://www.hdcabling.co.za/powered-hdmi-splitter-1x2-2-outputs-hdcp-12-hdmi-v13-p-85.html
You should be able to get a 20m cable for around R500, or maybe its worthwhile going the ethernet route for that length

Well the close in tv can use a short HDMI cable so thats fine, but is Y PrPb, Y CrCb one or two inputs, as in can i have the xbox and hd decoder connected here? I dont remember now what the back of the tv looks like, but the xbox connects to the tv using this component in.

its 1 input i think
if i read your other post corectl 1 of the tv's has 2 HDMI in puts connect the xbox and HD pvr with the HDMi cables

yep that will work, but then i need the hdmi splitter and 20m hdmi cable which is expensive. OR!! I could run decoder component out into the near-lcd, then run the 20m hdmi cable to the far-tv, that way i dont need the splitter at least lol

that'll work to, my plasma tv doesnt have the HDMI and i use the component (Y PrPb) for it and with dstv you cant tell the difference as they only broadcast in 720

I have my xbox in the Y PrPb jacks and it looks just as good as when i use a HDMI cable
