Dstv hd pvr ripoff posible

What would stop another provider(odm) from obtaining content from these networks ,besides money of course ,in essence these networks are in most cases money hungry capatilist.

Ummm the lawsuits that Multichoice could bring against the content distributors since they'd be breaking contracts etc.

Etv beat them with Sopranos and The Wire and given the fact that etv's free it's quite a shame...curb your enthusiasm too, afaik.

I have a funny feeling ODM will start with some premium shows.Something tells me,some of dstv exclusive agreements are about to end...of course its only my opinion. My guess is,there'll be parallel broadcasts, but it'll be harder in future to lock content.BET for instance is on dstv africa AND Gtv,doesn't look like they could lock it...and it is Viacom. There is however many other stuff out there like hbo, cinemax and ccentral content - mind of mencia, colbert report, root of all evil, def jam comedy, real time, larry sanders show to think of a few.MSNBC for a different view, not the african version.

The sirius 4 comes with huge bandwidt,Pas 7 (dstv) not. They can broadcast a lot of decent European fta content...AND EVEN FREE HD.

If iam not mistaken i think theres about 80+ fta channels on siruis4 that is if Icasa got anything to say about us recieving these channels

ICASA will try to say something about it, but if you fall within the broadcast footprint and have a motorized dish ... the world is your oyster.

Not that many great channels on FTA sat, the last time I checked at a mates house.

Icasa can do ****.Btw ODM have a licence anyway.

I was talking about fta channels in Europe you can't receive from here.U can get them with Sirius Europe beams and reroute them with Odm's.They usually just include some in their bouquet with their encryption.

Just like dstv...most dstv channels are free to air elsewhere

ICASA can say ****.This is not a free2view case, and even that was a long stretch.

Not that many great channels on FTA satS...with SA beams i might add.

Now go look at others.

Do Not waste any money or time on HD from DSTV. The PACE decoder is crappy, unresponsive and channel 170 is good to watch repeats of children animation and the EPG is always wrong. Wait until they have sorted out all their bugs and possibly another cheaper decoder that can handle more than one channel.

The decoder is not that problem johanhs...

The middleware software that Multichoice have developed that runs on it, is part of the problem... and it can handle as many HD channels as it needs to. Currently Multichoice are only broadcasting one, possibly because they don't have the downstream bandwidth to broadcast more than one, or because they're still testing their systems or whatever.

Like it seems has become my damn mantra or whatever, if you're going to attack a company or a product, do so on the correct grounds instead of just ranting nonsense.

I have my issues with Multichoice, and I do and will attack them on those issues, but ranting about nonsense achieves NOTHING.
