I still say the needing to get an installer out if it doesnt work is a load of poop.
Most people had theirs installed years ago and its too late for recourse now.
If mine is working fine but suddenly stops working because *they* made a change then I dont see why I should foot the bill.

The change they made was needing your installation to be 95% accurate, if your original installation was 80% accurate and worked previously how is that DSTVs problem?

I was wondering the same thing.

Thankfully I kicked DSTV in the nuts in Dec.

Multi Choice should then have at least given the users an option, 1. stay on the option that worked fine for them and pay no extra money or 2. pay the extra money for the upgraded service.

now they are just forcing everyone with HD installations that don't work on the new standard to pay extra money whether they want the updated service or not. its very unfair.

Good installers did exactly that. DStv and good installers have been recommending bigger dishes for HD since 2008.

Are you saying they should broadcast HD channels in 2 formats just to cater for the odd person who has a badly aligned dish
How many people actually have issues with receiving the test channel? I have only seen a couple that actually have a problem

In fact, one day when DSTV start broadcasting in 2k resolution I expect them to give me a 2k resolution TV and they better make sure its big enough for me to see the difference!

Seriously, you can only stay in the past for so long. Rather have a small % with bad installs to hold everyone back in getting more channels. DVB-S2 is a lot more bandwidth efficient and will allow more channels. Sat frequency space is finite, and VERY expensive....

I would rather have world class service than be kept back for those wanting to stay in the past to save R400 on an installer.

Ever thought that your dish is outside exposed to the elements, Cable plus rain is a good combo. Wind and heat will move the dish...

I am currently watching Batman Begins on channel 106. There is a lot of of temporal lag / blur in areas with motion. It's quite annoying, does anyone else see it? Fortunately it's not my DSTV, so I won't be bothered after tonight (no DSTV of my own). If this is the result of 'upgrading' then there are going to be some unhappy people. I have checked the TV settings, and turned off MPEG noise reduction, but no change, and I don't see anything else that would cause it.

Sorry if asked and if it's a stupid question, but how would you know if you are "switched over" to the new format? I ask since it's said it happens over a time period.

I can see the bird, so I know I'm capable of receiving the signal.

thnx

Live in a complex, so will have to wait till I can get settings for all the 10 additional networks I need to add to my home network. :(

It sucks.

Hi Guys,

I also have a question here, we make use of the Dual View decoder, and I'm not keen on switching to HD PVR, purely because I was told that you cannot "view two" at the same time, all the new decoders are either "view one, record one, or view one record two" I believe.

How will this switch affect dual view customers?

If it is a Sony TV of 2-3 years ago then that is the problem. We had a 46" Sony that did exactly that. After trying to fix it for 2 years it is standing in the garage now and our Samsung 46" Smart TV is working perfectly with the same installation. No more Sony for me.....

Yes, it is a Sony TV, probably about two years old. That's unfortunate :( It's a lot more noticeable in the dark scenes in the movie. Guess Sony won't be on my short-list when I upgrade.

This only affects HD channels, you don't get any HD channels
You can link HDPVRs with Xtraview giving 2 viewing environments
