Hi I'm relocating to Singapore in January (Various reasons, but I just love the place)

Only thing that I missed when I was there the last time was DSTV.

Does anyone know of a way to get DSTV from South Africa in Singapore.

I spoke to some local guys, and a aparently you need a received, decoder card etc. AND a 1.8m dish...this is where the problem comes in, I can't put up a 1.8M dish in a flat?

Anyone have any other way that I can receive it?

Please post.

Thanks a lot.

I'm curious to know this as well - tried looking into it a while back but couldn't find anything.

I know someone in Abu Dhabi who has it.

Works in Dubai

I know of someone in Dubai who managed to get it working without using a dish, not sure how different the cable network is from singapore or if the guy did something to stream it, but I hope i can find out.

Great thanks a lot will look at it. I was hoping that I can take over a PVR and record the programs (as you rightly say time difference is a huge issue)...know if this will work?

What would a person have to do to access DSTV in Australia/ New Zealand via satellite? Obviously you'd need a 1.8m dish or something big, but considering a person has that, would you just need a DSTV set top box and the decoder card?

I live in Manila and there's a couple of bars here, catering to expats, that have full access to DSTV. From what I could see, they're not using the DSTV decoder but another box that allows them to access a lot of other channels/satellites as well. I've seen the same thing in Thailand (was absolutely gobsmacked when I saw SA football on Supersport 3- in Pattaya).

At my apartment, I've got access via cable to Supersport 2 which means I can at least watch the cricket....I could also watch the Tri-nations and the recent off-season tour on the Australia Network.:D

I tried using www.dstvondemand.com but the region (Singapore) is blocked. can anyone advise me on how to change my proxy (In Media Player or in IE as well?) and which proxy to use please (Obviously a South African one).

It should be possible in most of Australia, but New Zealand is a deffinite no-go! The satellite signal only works in line-of-sight, and unfortunately NZ is "arround the corner" so to speak. Have a look at the "footprint" map of the Intelsat 7 satellite which transmits the DSTV signal to see where you should be able to receive DSTV. Footprint map link: http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/intel7.html
Pointing your dish in the correct direction with a South African subscription should give you DSTV anywhere within the "footprint".

According to this map you should also be able to get it in the UK with a 160-200cm dish am I right?

Nice Thread :)

I also need help please. I work in SA and Kenya. Although I can get DSTV in Kenya, it sux major hairy balls. Its basically "DSTV africa" they cut out kyknet & MK & some other channels that I would like to watch when im homesick. Its replaced with African channels (joy).

I just had a look at the footprint. obviously the whole of Africa is ok, but would this work? im leaving for Kenya on Wednesday. What would I need to do to get this to work?
Just my SA smartcard & decoder? And then plug it into the satellite cable in my flat in Nairobi? I wont need a bigger dish do I ?)

I would save ALOT of money if this would work. (wouldn't have to pay 2 different subscriptions)

i have noticed i can have access but wer do i start from, get the dish, but from wich companies?please help
