I bought a dish and a decoder and already paid the subscription, now i want to install it myself, is the a way it should be mounted on the wall,should it face a specific direction and angle

Just depends on where you are as the angles change. up in JHB, set the elevation to 36Deg and face it east :-)

Juts go to Game or Elsat and buy signal device that fits on the LNB and when plugged in you where a headphone and will hear a sound the better the sound the better the signal and thats you do, works for my friend when he does his installations :)
 
doesnt the decoder tell you how good the signal is?

i feel u, maar cant i at leat try b4 i part with R350.00? c'mon if i get it right i'll celebrate with daai R350, imagine how many amstels i can get..plus its cricket night

Save yourself a LOT of frustrations and just pay the R350.00! They will have your DSTV up and running within an hour and it will be perfect.

Do it yourself and it will take you HOURS and you will still lose signal as soon as it gets even slightly overcast! :D
 
took me about an hour too get the best signal.

Fastened the dish, called the mrs to check the signal strength & quality, turned the dish, repeat process.

Not really that hard and the money stayed in my pocket.

Mebbe if more people took the DYI route then installers would have too charge less ......
 
Its more fun to install the dish ones self, invite all your frineds over and have a braai, then attempt to point..... :cool:

Cummon.... there is no rocket-science is aligning a dish.... Try setting up a 3Mtr C-Band by yourself if you want a headache. :-)
 
after huffing and puffing.. i got it right (4 hours to be exact)..but hey, it was worth it...i'm still hugover from all the beer i had..(that i bought with the R350 that could have went to the bliksems from multichoice)
