DStv Mobile will support Android and Nokia

so the drifta devices doesn't need to be close to your decoder?

If you want to travel you will have to get the new battery powered decoder then plug the drifta into this and plug your phone into the drifta.

I was hoping the android app would be out before the world cup, now I dont think I will bother.

I can imagine using this if the technology was built into my phone, but to lug around another piece of kit doesn't appeal to me at all. Instead of selling Driftas Multichoice should be offering deals for the phones that do have the technology built in.

and which contracts does it work with? I can't see paying five hundred something Rand a month to watch such a tiny screen.

It's R36 per month from April onwards. It's SS1, SS2, SS3 and other 6 or 7 channels.

Guys, why don't you just log onto www.dstvmobile.co.za and find all the info there.

@dexster : You don't need to even have a dstv subscription to use this device, it's a total stand alone device. Doesn't need to be plugged into anything, got it's own little flimsy aerial which catches the DVB-H signal. I'm using it on my iPad, not too bad. If you are an existing Dstv subscriber, then you get to use the device for free until the 1 April 2012! Otherwise it is R36 or R39pm subscription.

Current channels on offer:
Africa Magic
Channel O
Trace TV
The eNews Channel
SuperSport Blitz
SuperSport 1
SuperSport 2
SuperSport 3
Cartoon Network

The Drifta IS a decoder in itself - a mobile decoder - it does not need to be anywhere near any other decoder

I have the Drifta and use it with my iPhone and iPad. It is a cool device, but they really need to change their program lineup. They seriously need to lose the low budget, African movie channel, and the two African music channels. Who, in their right mind would want to watch music - music is there to be listened to, and for that we already have music on our iPods or phones - what a waste of channels. They need an international news channel like BBC/SKY or CNN, and then an informative channel like BBC Knowledge / Discovery / History / National Geographic etc, and one GOOD INTERNATIONAL movie channel like MM1 MM2 etc

With the current lineup, I certainly won't subscribe after April when they start charging for the service

This is a BAD article. As can be seen by the comments above, it really confuses readers. If the phone hardware does not support DVB-H, no software will help, and I am sure that all phones that do support DVB-H, will come with software to view it.

If I can guess, it ill be like Jan, that the software is for the phones to connect to the drifta, but not via DVB-H like he said. It will be via WiFi, using multichoices own protocol.

Yep...

Why does the Drifta only work on selected Wi-Fi devices?

A secure sorftware application is required for each device that can be paired with the Drifta. We are working on a number of new applications to enable access to Blackberry, Nokia and Android smartphone devices and these will be available in early 2011. dstvmobile.com

Really!! The bit about a battery powered decoder plugged into the drifta seemed serious to you?

Sorry guys but i hate the fact that you can't watch at full screen mode and the quality is just horrible, I used that on my pc

Having read the article it seems pretty clear to me

The purpose of the applications would be to interface with MultiChoice's “Drifta” device which costs around R600 at retail.
