DStv Mobile will support Android and Nokia

Not sure if I should be happy... but then again I have never looked at their mobile site. We'll see.

I don't get it...i though it was hardware in the phone? not software....
The guy next to me at work is running it on his nokia symbian phone? huh?

Hell yes, now we can watch 2 year old series and a bajillion ads on phones! Awesome!

But will my Android Smartphone support DSTV Mobile? Probably not. :p

All Android and Symbian phones that have wifi will be able to use the drifta to access DSTV mobile, so basically the drifta will be like the decoder and send the signal to the application on your phone via wifi where you will be watching it.

The iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Android and Nokia applications receive the video feed over WiFi, which is broadcast from the Drifta device. The phones don't need to be DVB-H compliant, just WiFi-compliant and DSTV have to develop an app for it. The Drifta device receives the DVB-H signal.

ToxicWazte has it right. Yes, this is not for everyone and I'm not sure how popular it will be. All I can say is that if you are a sport nut, and have an office job like me, then it great. SA just won the toss and decided to batt. I have an hour of cricket before I go home. Nice.

You misunderstand me. I wasn't talking about the capabilities of the phone. I was saying that the OWNER of the phone is NOT going to support DSTV Mobile.

Mainly cos DSTV sucks sweaty donkey butt.

Do Android phone users have to wait until 1 April or are there other options? A middleware interface or summin?

I honestly dont see the point of this. Appart from you being able to use it on your laptop perhaps...but on your phone? Really now.

maybe it's for bottom end users who have a phone but no decoder and dish and want to output to pal.
honestly the resolution is so poor, that makes no sense.
even the sport argument - you can watch a lot of stuff on the net streaming already.
maybe to watch cartoon network on long trips for the kids.
but then there's coverage issues.

okay. i can't figure out who's going to use this.

i am assuming this technology is in it's infancy in SA and may be overrun by something cheaper in a few months???

so the drifta devices doesn't need to be close to your decoder?
