Hello

Anybody else experiencing terrible buffering with the occasional streaming lockup (Have to go out and back in) for DSTV Now? I have 10MB Uncapped ADSL from MWEB and multiple streaming devices. My downloads and other streaming services are fine, its just DSTV Now that has issues for me.

I am experiencing similar issues with DSTV Catch-Up, I use to be able to stream the SD stream comfortable at all times of day, but for the past week or two it is not possible at all. It is especially bad in the evenings.

I turn on YouTube to see if my SpeedTest results is trustworthy, and it streams 720p, no problem.

No issues with buffering. What I have noticed though is that there appears to be a signal breakup that is a constant irritation. It's almost like you're trying to watch DSTV in the middle of a thunderstorm. It definitely doesn't seem to be connection related as the picture quality is still good, it just breaks up (and makes that weird squeaking or scratching noise - not sure how else to describe it).

Yup ive also started getting that lately, glad its not just me.

Try anything other than mweb. Access has a 1GB free account you can sign up for

Thanks I will try that, strange though I actually emailed Mweb and they assured me they are not throttling dstv in any way and that I should take up the issue with Multichoice itself.

Yup

Did not have this issue a month ago. But I do see many more channels available

Today was not a good day for MC streaming services, all of them. But then neither has it been a good day for stable Internet access. Somewhere in the network there is a gremlin at work today.

MC also had sign on problems this morning with the DsTV now App.

BUT in general, their streaming services are not great at the best of times.

I stream DSTV now fine at home with a 4MB uncapped line. In HD. Supersport highlight videos from the Supersport website tend to struggle though with a lot of buffering.

At the office the live TV doesn't work as well though, and this is on 100MB fibre.

Just to report back, I tried a 1GB free Afrihost account and can stream 720p and 1080p in other streaming services fine. Unfortunately DSTV Now still buffers though, so its not ISP related.

Same here.

In simplified terms: Your company's internal IT will most likely be implementing some sort of QoS, which will lower streaming priority significantly.

Update: Its been fine today with hardly any buffering, nothing has changed either from my side. This is leading me to believe it must just be the load on their servers late in the evenings that can't keep up. Those that say its streaming fine, you streaming during the day or evenings?

Was terrible for me last weekend. Tried to watch the F1. Loads of buffering. This on a 100mb fibre line. Just gave up after 2 minutes.

Did you watch it through DSTV now or via the Supersport website? I watched it through the latter and apart from the issues I mentioned in my previous post, it streamed consistently (on a 4mb ADSL line).

The problem is not with Mweb. Even people with fibre, proper uncapped 20/20mb lines have constant stream lock. DSTV servers can not cope with the amount of stream demanded.
