DStv Now bugs being squashed

It's never worked for me, the streams just fail when i try play anything.

With the launch of a brand new product, technical issues can sometimes crop up,” a spokesperson for DStv Digital Media said.

My view on Customer Experience 101: It's best to start with a public beta where customers understand there are issues and have a quick way of getting support. That way you get your early adopters to try it out, stress test it a bit, give you feedback, buy into the product and become advocates. If you simply go live at random, you can really alienate some really important customers.

Hi hi,

New guy here. Actually, not new to forums (I moderate the VOD sections on the DStv Forum) - but new HERE.

Hope I can help.

Buggy as hell

We rolled out an update to our backend systems late last night that sorted most of the streaming "Unsupported URL" / "Failed to Initialise DRM" errors.

If you'd like to give the app another try, kill the app if it's running in the background - and if you're on Android - clear the app's cache. This seems to solve many of the problems.

Still not working had to remove the app as the crash messages were constantly popping up

Nic, you should pm rpm and register as a formal rep.

Well I'm happy to report that it's working for me now.

iPad Air.

Well as for me I'm surprised there are some who experienced hiccups. Mine worked since download ('bout 2 weeks)... glad that they're fixing bugs tho, but hopefully they don't break it for the rest of us :D

I'm happy to report that it works well for me. I was using the previous DStv iOS app and that worked well. On upgrade to the DStv Now app I got an issue which I tweeted about and had a response from DStv within an hour. The team worked that evening to resolve the technical issue and it was resolved later that evening. Throughout the process I was asked to test and validate.

Big ups to that part of the DStv team!

Thanks for the tip, I'll do that.

Excellent :)

When is it coming to Windows 8? Would be nice to have it on my laptop.

You can log onto www.dstv.com/catchup to stream shows on your laptop (you'll need to sign up for a DStv Connect ID and link your Premium smartcard). We're looking at launching a web version of DStv Now in the new year.

Insh'allah.

I know MC_Nic is present here, and I know the app does not officially support rooted devices, but has anyone found a way to hide the root to get it working?

I have an Android TV stick which is convenient to throw in the bag when travelling. The problem is that it is rooted and needs to be as it runs a custom ROM. Problem is I can't get the DSTV Now app to work. Supersport app works fine. I have tried Hide My Root and the Xposed Rootcloak module without luck.

Any advice?

"Hey guys,i found a way to prevent apps from recognising you have root. If you use SuperSU,go into it. Under the superSU settings menu, uncheck the enable superuser checkbox.
Then open the app afterwards. It shouldn't detect that you have root."

Try that? Not sure as I do not use the DSTV app.

I started downloading a movie this morning at home to test and completely forgot about it. 10 minutes later took my son to school and yes you guess it, 800MB from my vodacom data gone :((( Surely it must adk before using mobile data? I cant even find setting like that now that i check. Iphone app

Firstly yes I agree the app "should" warn you and provide an in-app setting to limit download of video content/streaming while on mobile data.

However you ultimately have control of whether the app uses mobile data through Settings->DStv Now->Use Mobile Data.

Thanks for that. Coming from Android I did not think of looking under general settings. Updated.
