Ok, I'm on a ranting spree of late.

Multichoice are one of the most frustrating companies to deal with.

They took payment from me on the 9th with an automated run on my credit card, but then they go and disconnect all my services yesterday and claim to not have received payment.

Instead of just transferring me to the billing department to actually converse with someone who can resolve the issue, I must instead send a bank statement (which I'm not prepared to do due to it having a lot of info that MC don't need to see) to their general call centre who will escalate to their billing department and MAYBE it will get resolved, but I must also contact my bank to see what happened with the payment. So a mistake on their side now turns into a huge admin nightmare on mine because they're just shrugging their shoulders and going "Angaas"

*screams*

I've heard this happen one too many times now. It's happened to a few of my family member, with Telkom especially. The money goes off your card, and it's as a clear as day, but you have to provide proof that you have paid?

If Im not mistaken, is it not th company's duty to provide proof that you have not paid?

I have no issue with providing proof of payment, if such a thing is available... I do have an issue with providing a bank statement. It has private information on it, and its not going to get sent to some random call center idiot...

I agree. And I really can't see why POP is an issue. My point though is, why is this happening? Is it unique to entities such as Telkom and DSTV? I wouldn't really put it past them.

Block all the other amounts in MSpaint and only show the 1 line, headers and footers of the statement.

One of the many reasons why I pay Multichoice and Telkom from their site with my cheque card. I don't like giving companies access to debit my account anyway.

I have them set up as beneficiaries... end of the month I EFT them whatever's owed.

I feel you. I gave up on the last debit order dispute I had with Multichoice and will never allow them to run debits off my account again, ever. They ran fourteen debits in one year, refunded one of them but shrugged off the other. Statements (or simple logic and a calendar) didn't help one bit either. I guess they allocated me more entertainment than their other subscribers that year and the user pays...

Generally I have done that....but I saw that I could setup a fixed value recurring credit card debit on their site (so they can't change the value of the deduction themselves), and it was just easier that way.. one less thing to worry about, without having to stress about MC screwing me over with a debit order.

Turns out that it was a mistake, and when they fix this damned mess I'm going back to a manual payment every month

I've payed them 3 different ways and they have still disconnected me the day after or 2 days after I've payed. Reason? Oh we didn't get proof of payment. Then it turns into the nightmare you described and on tp of all that, they think they are justified charging you that reconnection fee from their balls-up :wtf:

+1...I dislike debit orders intensely...

I loathe the mothertruckers! I have scheduled payments that cue off on the 29th of each month! **** giving people free reign on my bank account. It's a one way ticket to issues!

Never use your credit card for debit orders, because it's difficult to reverse it. Cheque or savings accounts are better for that. I pay them at the shops and still get rewarded from my bank for swiping my card.

Its not a Debit Order...I loath and detest them..

I am using a recurring transaction instead.

If they try charge me a reconnection fee, I will strip my feking moer. This is their balls up, and the fact that I'm having to run around to try sort it out is bad enough...

you can blank out all the information you don't want them to see...easy

If I have to send a POP, I normally open (it's a PDF) with Gimp, black out the irrevelant information, then send it in redacted form.

I have twice had to have them reverse a reconnect fee for a balls up debit. I have now cancelled the debit order after they double billed me for activating a holiday decoder and charging full amount for a few days service. I pay EFT now

Initially they wanted a full Bank Statement....

Only after I actually spoke to someone with a brain, did they admit they'll accept a redacted statement.

I pay annually so as to get the 8.3% discount. After paying in May 2012, I received 8 pages of statement from them. There were reversals, credits, debits, more of the same, on and on taking up 8 pages. The opening balance on page 1 was R 0,00. The closing balance on page 8 was -R 14554.00. Obviously wrong, so I called them. The accounts lady's first comment was "The computer says" so I said, not to worry, I will call you back

So this year has been entirely free since I had a 2 year credit. You can also check your balance on-line. This gives a different figure from the statement. I even posted a comment about this on the DSTV Forum but it was ignored
