DStv piracy clampdown

they will probably target the illegal IPTV streams that include DSTV playback in their 9000 available channels

How are they going to do this if the provider is not located in South Africa?

it clearly states somewhere up above that they are targeting users - besides they could also target the local resellers of these services

It will be impossible to stop this. There are numerous other streaming services besides Waka where you can access all the DSTV channels

So they knock the handful of local yokel's but the international boys are still there. Ah well ... suppose they need to do something to keep share holdets interested and happy.

“It warned that subscribers to these services are also in the crosshairs and face penalties and fines for purchasing illegal streams.”

And if you don't pay? :P There is other ways to watch what you want, Some Legal other's dubious, and a few Illegal

Surprising that there are people out there who want to watch constant repeats, commercials and promos.
You'll never know. We don't care about DSTV's Shows, The local ones doesn't impress us, and the ones from overseas (that we watch), you can watch the next day on their App (mostly Documentaries).

Sport might be something that we "miss" a bit, but we've found that some of the sport we want to watch we can watch somewhere else "legally" for free.

It all boils down to sport. I don't think anyone is trying to stream/ watch Big Brother Africa. Sport is DSTV's draw card. The Olympics are on now and the free offering by SABC is shocking so DSTV is the only viable option for me besides youtube and the odd facebook live option :)

One can always find other options :P

It is just fear mongering...

Sure, but somewhere sometime they will want to set an example to take the fear factor a level up - you just don't want to be the person they select to set an example with ..... so i would personally still keep a watchful eye on proceedings from here on in

it would be interesting to compel multichoice in open court to produce proof of their right to embark on criminal proceedings regards their "ownership" of IP .
this would probably require multichoice to produce a whole lot of agreements and contracts, which i'm pretty certain multichoice would prefer not be in public domain.

this in a similar manner as the criminal courts where a complainant has to produce actual evidence of purchase and ownership of an item alleged having being stolen from him.

My mom literally cancelled on Saturday.
Set her up with a Google Chromecast 4k TV device. Netflix/Amazon Prime and youtube. Has everything she wants to watch

This is exactly what Multichoice need to counter with a customisable offer. Imho, when sport becomes available similar to how F1 have done things it's game over for Multichoice. It's ridiculous that you cannot go direct for the sport or events you want to watch.
