Amazon streamed several springbok games last year. You just need to change your geo location with a VPN or smart DNS.

In an interview for the University of Cambridge’s school newspaper, Newell said that the way to end piracy is to provide a service that’s more complete than cracked software, and that restrictive DRM only encourages more piracy.

“We think there is a fundamental misconception about piracy. Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem,” he said. “If a pirate offers a product anywhere in the world, 24 x 7, purchasable from the convenience of your personal computer, and the legal provider says the product is region-locked, will come to your country 3 months after the US release, and can only be purchased at a brick and mortar store, then the pirate’s service is more valuable.”

Using a VPN to stream from RugbyPass, you know the company owned by World Rugby, is considered piracy.

Well then monochoice needs to tell World Rugby not to show the games live.

Or even better, if monochoice wants to stop people watching shows they should tell other broadcasters not to show, the shows they make, before its shown on monochoice, as if a south African could be watching it live on their platform, and monochoice isn't getting the revenue from the ads shown during the adbreaks on said channel.

100%.

Most of the problems always started as a lack of access and then later manifests as habit.

Back when SA was sanctioned for everything you literally had not choice but to pirate. Then the legal era came around with Windows 95 and such and suddenly it was more a habitual problem than an access one.

Then I remember the era of the PS2 and Xbox 1 it was a case of physical games just not being available here or being severely delayed to the rest of the world and pirating it was simply easier. Xbox 1 never officially launched here so why on earth would anyone volunteer to pay them money for something they didn't bother selling? No loss to them and piracy was the way.

Then the PS3/Xbox 360 came along the digital era emerged. Suddenly we could have games on the very same day as everyone else without waiting for a courier or local distributor to wake up and smell the roses and things were well priced too. If you didn't want it on day one then there was pretty decent specials down the line so you just picked it up later.

If anything the convenience of piracy was always that it was digital in nature and therefore accessible. The moment the official channels woke up to that concept the entire game changed and it was no problem paying for it.

Now I have all my music on a streaming platform as well as all my TV, my Kindle library is massive filled with books and this works because of Family Sharing, my consoles are all digital again because of Family Sharing making it good value and easily accessible.

Much like Gabe says it's easier for me to do it legally/officially than it is to pirate it so why would I bother with the latter? But make it hard for me to procure something and I instantly pirate it instead.

Multichoice are a bunch of clowns. They should do us all a favor and close down and be bought out by a proper network.
Their BBBEE-puppet CEO sits there all entitled thinking we're going to part with our money for rubbish. Half the time their streaming doesn't work properly - yesterday i had 2 TVs at home just refuse to stream DSTV. One built-in in App and one AppleTV. I'm on a 1Gbps line and all the other streaming sites worked perfectly.

Then you have their content which is useless to put it mildly.

Finally, their idiot-cousin OnAir phoning me every week telling me if I don't upgrade my decoder i might be cut-off from DSTV needs to go get *****.

Logical conclusion is for them to be bought out by a group of fibre providers and ISPs. Then their offerings will end up just being a bolt-on service offered by your ISP.
