Pirate streaming services plague DStv

Pirate streaming services like 123Movies and Fmovies not only steal revenue from local broadcasters like MultiChoice but also significantly impact the creative industry as a whole.

Moreover, services like 123Movies and Fmovies are free to use most of the time, with their primary revenue generators being ads.

Noooooo! How dare people want to go to sites like those that do not charge them a cent to watch what they want! Poor Multichoice is losing money here folks! Have a heart, the only ones that are going to suffer are Multichoice's paying customers who are going to be forced to watch more repeats and adverts.

If an individual use these services as they are there and cheap, but would never subscribe to DSTV because it is too expensive. Do Multichoice then lose any money?

Surely it is only a loss to them if it is a subscriber that they lost. I for one cancelled my DSTV subscription 5 years ago and will definitely never subscribe again. If I watch pirated content they don't lose anything from me.

MultiChoice added that educating the public about the risks and consequences associated with streaming content from pirate services is crucial to deterring the use of pirate streaming services

So what are the risks of streaming content from pirate services?

DSTV charge me for Netflix and Disney+ even though I have never used them

Their call centre agent says: "We do not make mistakes, you must simply pay". Emails are ignored

I cancelled the payment and hopefully today is the last I will hear from them

Here's a crazy thought. Imagine if you allowed users the freedom to create packages with content they actually want at a price point they are willing to pay for? I know, crazy right?

Maybe multichoice should learn from them. Make DSTV free and earn from ads only.

OH the cancel culture.
Forget a moment about dstv.
If more and more people use these type of services, everyone will loose. There will be little money paid to producers, actors etc. TV and Movies will go down the drain. so even on your "cheap" services you will have little to watch.
Same as with all these people using adblockers on Youtube. If Youtube don't get enough money to pay the creators good money, they will stop making videos and we will go back to watching peoples boring home videos on YouTube.
But hey lets boycott everything. We want everything for free or very cheap.

More scaremongering from monochoice. Who cares, you can watch 90% of what they show free legally in the world if you're willing to do a bit of setup. The only thing you'd miss is local sports, the only ones I miss is the springbok games.

Wasn't it shown in a study that piracy doesn't have a real impact on companies bottom line. The only thing that impacts production of shows are ratings.

Question for MC, did the pricing factor ever cross your mind when looking at:
a) Shrinking sunscriber base
b) Uptake in illegal streaming services
c) Consumer choice
........
You pay Multichoice to watch adverts. Why would I pay R900 to watch adverts all day. Then must make their service for free and subsidise with ad revenue just like the pirates. They seem to be making some good money from it.
