Well, I think DSTV/Multichoice have made a good move with the Showmax 2 effort, if they bring the right content, they going to see piracy drop. Now they must just do something sane and similar with sports, and they just might turn things around. And see an equivalent drop in piracy there.

But I will believe when I see it.

My sister pirated 90% of the shows they used to watch here in South Africa. When they moved to Australia, it dropped to almost nothing, as everything they watched was freely available on public TV there.

If an individual use these services as they are there and cheap, but would never subscribe to DSTV because it is too expensive. Do Multichoice then lose any money?

Surely it is only a loss to them if it is a subscriber that they lost. I for one cancelled my DSTV subscription 5 years ago and will definitely never subscribe again. If I watch pirated content they don't lose anything from me.

The question is did you cancel because the pirates were there? Sure it factored into your decision so it's a legitimate gripe and somewhere they are losing out due to people doing that. The response however should be to offer a compelling offer so people would want to subscribe.

Forget a moment about dstv.
If more and more people use these type of services, everyone will loose. There will be little money paid to producers, actors etc. TV and Movies will go down the drain. so even on your "cheap" services you will have little to watch.
Same as with all these people using adblockers on Youtube. If Youtube don't get enough money to pay the creators good money, they will stop making videos and we will go back to watching peoples boring home videos on YouTube.
But hey lets boycott everything. We want everything for free or very cheap.

I have no problem with the Youtube ads for free accounts. However lately they started showing them with every video even if you didn't watch anything in a month and aren't an income generating user. What's worse is that some of them have been non-skippable and then sometimes two in a row. This isn't about wanting everything for free like you always make it out to be. It has turned into a really bad experience where they are trying to milk it for every fraction of a cent they can and that will ultimately turn people away and everyone will lose.

And sorry if I don't give a shite about studios with the way they treat artists. Just the other day I was watching an interview with 4 Jacks and a Jill where the guy talked how musicians are treated by the industry and screwed out of what they're owed. Till this day he still gets calls or mails from people saying how they just bought their latest release then he doesn't know anything and they didn't release anything new. What would happen is the studios would rerelease old albums where they just mix them up a bit and artists would get none of the royalties.

But even with that they are hypocritically the first ones to complain. Why do you think Onlyfans has become so popular? It's because the adult industry has treated people like crap. The stuff I heard where people are literally treated like livestock will make your hair raise. The same thing will happen to the music industry and the movie industry.

Funny he's the one to say it though.

GOG has no online requirement.
You can install on any PC.
You can share with friends and family.
Don't like the price in one region simply move to another.

Steam requires you to log in every x days.
You can only install if you have the client and it's linked to your account.
Tries to stop you from sharing.
Your region is locked even if you move.

Yet it's not the GOG version that's always pirated.

Cancelled DSTV because of the price. Seldom watched TV. If I watched it was mainly for sport and definitely did not justify paying almost R1000 a month. So, no, I did not cancel because of pirated content being available. If pirate content were not available, I still would have canceled.

Multichoice are a bunch of clowns. They should do us all a favor and close down and be bought out by a proper network.
Their BBBEE-puppet CEO sits there all entitled thinking we're going to part with our money for rubbish. Half the time their streaming doesn't work properly - yesterday i had 2 TVs at home just refuse to stream DSTV. One built-in in App and one AppleTV. I'm on a 1Gbps line and all the other streaming sites worked perfectly.

Then you have their content which is useless to put it mildly.

Finally, their idiot-cousin OnAir phoning me every week telling me if I don't upgrade my decoder i might be cut-off from DSTV needs to go get *****.
