DSTv porn possibility backlash

"Perversion is aroused by pornography [and] because family members or acquaintances are largely responsible for abuse, child abuse will increase dramatically," Langner said.

Trucking tanker lol! What a load of BS!
Hierdie kerks mense wat so drastiese bollie praat vererg my so!

Ban altar boys then too as they're molested at regular intervals across the world.

I don't see how Multichoice can be stopped from putting up this channel if they wanted to.
It's a paid subscription and then just put a pin code on the channel.

Anyway, it's not up to fscking trade unions how kids are raised, but rather each family on it's own.

I don't have DSTV, never will have - it's load of crap, but kuk like this should be nipped in the butt!

Oi Solidarity - take that "Hand" and point it at Jacob Zuma you p**s!

EDIT: And what the hell kind of indication is 13000 anyway?
Also why should we take note of these numbers?
How many voted yes?
When and how was this vote organised?
If numbers are to be taken seriously - have another national referendum and then push these numbers at me.

Never heard of "Hand" or this "vote" before now :erm:
Don't care for either.

What is really laughable at the whole debate (especially with the "backlash") is that they don't realize that DSTV isn't going to air the porn channel like their normal DSTV bouqet, they're going to have a separate sim-card thing locked with a pin that would have access to this channel.

Now agreed with our ex-President Mandela. How we treat our children is what reflects as a nation, however, with a locked (pin protected) separate sim-card thingy. The only way the kid would ever be exposed to this porn is if his parents allows it. And i'll bring back to my age old argument (same I use against violent PC games). It's the parents lack of parenting that causes children to be treated the way they do (the "evil" ways) and their lack of teaching them right from wrong and allowing these things to happen (even if you're ignorant about the situation).

I vote "yes" for porn.

dont care much for porn, even less for dstv... 13000 ppl, it's really an insignificant drop in the ocean though...

p.s. your kids dont need dstv for porn, they can get it directly on their mobile phones. idiots.

How the wheel turns..

DSTV had 'DontPanic TV' shut down! .. anyone remember them!

I find it ammusing how few of the commentors don't read the article even.
1. The 13000 is not the amount of people who indicated to DSTV in their Porn customer survey they don't want it. Its a seperate group of people who indicated towards DSTV that they shouldn't bring in a porn channel. There is no proof even that all 13k (or a subset of them) are in fact DSTV subscribers.
2. Why not such a big backlash for e-tv? - Well, there was opposition, but as can be expected, a 24hr soft and hard porn channel will garner larger opposition than e-tv's late-night only soft porn.
3. For what its worth I'm also against the idea, specifically, as someone else stated, people can already get their porn elsewhere. 24 hr fulltime broadcast channel will just make it easier to get hold of, especially for children. And yes, even though decoders have parental controls, few people use it, and most who do have kids smart enough to bypass it.
4. Yes, the argument that porn doesn't in all cases turn people into molesters, rapists and murderers (check youtube for James Dobson interview with Ted Bundy) is indeed valid. But it is definitely a conducing factor in cases where these things occur. I know coming from a gaming background where the link between violent games and mass murderes are often made in the media, that the argument is not rock solid. But the link in this case is definitely a lot stronger, and in South Africa, where rape is already extremely prevalent, do we really want to stoke the fire?

If a child has internet access, he has porn access, moaning about DSTV isn't a solution.

Its quite sad that so many here are clearly porn addicts.

If you can stream as much porn as you like with the click of a mouse why should you put it on the tv where it would obviously be easier for kids to access.

You vote yes for porn on tv why exactly? Let me guess it would be more convenient. ... you see what just happened there? Well kids would abuse the ease of access too.

Wait, an organisation called Helping Hand is counting the number of people they can get hold of who do not want porn on pay-TV channels. I just find the name EXTREMELY FUNNY.

But, on a serious note ... surely government should jump at this opportunity.
I mean, according to the figures presented by Helping Hand, DSTV would be creating a PICA service for free.
Just like FICA and RICA, this one just aimed at the pornsters.

Helping Hand should damn well be thanking DSTV for the opportunity to setup a list of the dangerous porn addicts, and should simply be petitioning that the list be made public.

No, I am not being sarcastic, I am simply following Helping Hand's logic to the obvious conclusion.

+ 999999. Well put. All you damn porn addicts should be ashamed. All you think of is yourselves and your damn porn addictions. For once think about the children who will be affected by this. I say it should be banned outright. This country and our society is corrupt enough already. We don't need more of this sh|t on TV or anywhere else. Kids today are already experimenting with sex and messing around (and doing much worse) at 10 and 11 years old. And then you guys complain when your wives, sisters, mothers and daughters get raped by criminals, of which many are under the age of 16. Fuel a few burning ambers, and it will turn into a raging fire.

You guys are disgusting.

I think there something wrong with your assumption that not being against porn means you are automatically an addict. Addiction is a VERY strong term and usually a compulsive disorder. Personally I have nothing against people and their "special interests", hell Im a proud gamer and I would be HIGHLY irate if someone told me I wasn't allowed to game just because some people thought it was "wrong" and that I was an "addict" simply because I had an interest in the subject.... Sheesh, let ppl do what they want and they should all be adult enough to make the correct decision for themselves and their children anyways. If not, maybe being unfit parents is a more accurate description of the problem at hand?

Not everyone has a porn star g/f :D. Porn actually aids in making your chick a porn star. So porn will forever go down and the most amazing thing on tv!!!!!!! :D. Then if you can replicate in real life and still watch then F yea!!!!!!!!!.

ok well you can play semantics all you want. But the comments made in this thread have nothing to do with free choice, and more to do with liking the fact there will be one more place to access porn.

Atleast admit that.

Let me guess, your response will have something to do with how censorship must be stopped before it spreads or something.

The Helping Hand campaign sponsored by C.U.M book stores. Who in their right mind names a Christian Boook Store C.U.M?

I always enjoyed a good ol' chuckle as I walked passed C.U.M., if they renamed it so many people would be without joy in their lives! Those guys are also marketing GENIUSES as who WONT notice those words splatted all over posters/magazine adds! ;)

lol, atleast you "kinda" admit it killa. Thats alteast better than hiding behind some "freedom, section 8756 yada yada" charter/act.

~ 1.5 Million DSTV subscribers... 13 000 say 'NO' .. 0.86% dont want pr0n, quite a conclusive amount.

I think it means only 0.86% bothered to voice their feelings, it wasn't a no/yes kind of thing. 100% of respondents (0.86% of subscribers) voted no.

No not really, if you take a look at America for example (and ok, so EVERYONE uses them for examples, but that doesn't change the facts), they have had porn channels and what not for YEARS now and yet we are no better with our sexual crimes than they are, in fact we are WORSE! If America had the amount of rape crimes we have in a single day there would be outrage. Now why do you suppose we have such a high rate with no porn channels in sight, compared to a country that has hundreds?

Edit: Guess I just dont see the point in disputing something that has no statistical relevance to sexual crimes, at least, not that I can see. Personally Id rather have ppl looking for their "fun" indoors than on the streets.
