DStv price hikes announced

How else were they supposed to pay for this…

But it's worth whatever they want to charge just for the sport…

If they did not have such a monopoly over Sport broadcasting rights , they would have closed doors years ago .

If you're a netflix subscriber, your rates increased by 40% in the past year due to exchange rates, so in light of that this isn't that bad.

My package is actually dropping from R39 to R29 - whoop whoop. I don't see how their gotv package is supposed to flourish at all considering this.

MultiChoice said it should be noted that DStv Access and decoder insurance prices did not increase, and that DStv EasyView pricing decreased.
You're not kidding, from R39/mth to R29/mth - 25% :wtf:

Too late, I threw in the towel and canceled easyview when they upped it to R39/mth - not that I watched anything, was just keeping my account active.

Definitely won't be returning because of this magnanimous offer!

Very true; Yet, I still get exceptional value for money from Netflix, more than what the desperate monopolistic multichoice can offer.

This!!! And on my Roku I can watch any News from anywhere.

As do I from DSTV. Quality of sports content is unrivalled.

Indeed - I was just trying to bring some sanity to the thread before it turned in to some uninformed hate-fest.

I have a small venture that's entirely dependant on imported goods, and the rand devaluation has been utterly brutal. I'm surprised Multichoice has managed to keep increases <10% ... it's not a company that runs at an extreme profit margins, it must have had to cut in to that a good bit.

It's not? So, what margin are they running at?

R759 is $48.37 thanks to the exchange rate.

The Sky Sports TV bundle in the UK is £45.50pm, or R998.47pm.
Time Warner Cable has a fairly comprehensive cable subscription for $64.99pm that includes PVR, which is R1020pm.

R759 isn't great value for money anymore, but it does compare favourably to the US and UK equivalents.

Discounting all the comments regarding MC v others, 8% is at least 3 to 4 percentage points less than I expected. I question if they'll be able to do this next time round if the currency doesn't strengthen.
