DStv price hikes from 2007-2012

The only thing I miss from DSTV is the sport! I miss it soooooo much! You can get some good streams online but my fastest line in on a capped package so I can't watch a lot! Tried DSTV mobile - used to work in my area but doesn't anymore - so yeah now my existence sucks because of Multichoice and their monopoly on good sport :( We really need somebody to come in and give them some competition - expected things from TopTV but they've turned out be satellite TVs Neotel!!
 
What streams are out there. I use Hulu & Netflix its definitely better than DSTV but what else is out there?

Dividend from MultiChoice based on strong growth for the financial year, group revenue up 22% from R14,5bn to R17,7bn and profit up 20%
This was 2010/2011
and net profit was up 20%, from R2,9bn to R3,4bn, mainly due to organic growth. Subscriber growth of 637000 households was driven largely by the Soccer World Cup last year and decoder price specials, according to MultiChoice. Subscribers, as of March this year, stood at 3,49-million households.

Well nothing 100% reliable or guaranteed quality - but if you've got no access, then its better than nothing. Talking about places like Wiziwig, livetv.ru/en, firstrowsports.eu, worldtvpc.com etc.

Depends on what you want...

You can watch golf off the PGA website - it's actually better than TV because you can bring up leaderboards and scorecards on the screen while you watch.

There are also some xbmc plugins (the one for supersport appears to not work anymore)

More sports are livestreamed from their host channel's sites and if you know how to watch hulu and netflix then you know how to access those too

What would make for an interesting comparison is to take the last 4 years of programming and compare it to this year's programming schedule, cross out ALL the duplicate shows (repeats that has been playing for that time AND longer) and focus on only the NEW shows/movies.

Then go ahead and ask DSTV *why* the price hike. Since the shows they repeat going back to 2002 (IMO and AFAIK) has already been paid for really...

That's what I thought.. Payin new (higher) prices for old ****.
 
Unfortunately there are no alternatives when it comes to watching Sport, which is the main reason if not the only reason why my father has DSTV.

Crossing off the repeated repeats of all the Die Hard movies would be a good start.

From those numbers: 22.3% increase in subscribers and a 22% increase in group revenue and a 20% increase in profit....

So at this point, for every average New Subscriber, they are making pure profit!

As far as I'm aware, you need to license a show for every slot/season it airs. Meaning, even re-runs cost money. The same with all content. They don't own it after the first airing.

Much as I hate increases, they are in line with inflation.
