Yes, my nipples are not sore enough from everybody else milking me dry, now DSTV jumps on as well.

I predict they will blame a weak exchange rate, and then petrol prices have caused an increase in our costs to deliver quality  broadcasting. with more ads per tv show than you can stomach, which are also paid for at stupid high rates.

Dont fall for DSTV nonsense.

If you go to the video store, you can rip your favorite shows, and watch it again and again without having to watch forced advertising even though your paying our your arse to watch a couple of channels.

And pay for HD? DVD quality viewing? with a 4k decoder? That's nuts.

In South Africa, what goes up almost never comes down.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the price increases in both decoder prices and subscriptions will be effective 01 April 2009.

Am I the only one that has noticed this very noticeable date? Fine, its unconfirmed, but that date always makes everything sound fishy.

We should mobolise people...
How many people cancelling their subsciptions at one time would it take to make a dent in the Mutlichoice coffers?

I think the time has finally come to drop dstv and rather spend the money on a shiny new 4 meg line upgrade.

Multichoice have been playing the "creep the price up" game for long enough now.

Bunch of idiots, Everyone is complaining these days about the lack of programmes

HD PVR sucks, yeah screw me some more... Guess Im going to tell them to screw themselves.

Best thing I ever did was cancel DStv. It's just not value for money and prices seem to go up every 6 months.

Wow. Alot of negativity here.

I work hard the whole day, and when I get home, I like to watch sumfin nice, two or three episodes/movies, while skipping the ads.

I do not think I have been on CRAPBC 1,2 or three 'cept for NCIS in years.

THUS, I am glad DSTV exists. Would someone else have done what they did, if they did not (not back in the 80's, I don't think).

So, like everyone else I hate increases, BUT, I still get entertained, each night (by dstv, if not by wife), so I am happy enough to pay more, to ensure DSTV still exists tonight.

You guys are very negative, so early in the morning.

I will bet majority of you okes here smoke and drink every month and waste endless amounts of money on both items :), yet you moan about 500 bucks :)

DSTV is great i think and well worth 500 bucks. one night of drinking, 2 weeks worth of cigi's. All i do is a skip a night of drinking once a month and can pay for dstv for an entire month :), so go ahead cancel your subscription :) and download your series but for 500 bucks a month i would rather have dstv than not because lets be honest what can i really do with 500 bucks other than stuff up my kidneys some more :p

Erm Dual View Access fee increase from R55 to 60. Without paying it my STD PVR useless.
So I have to pay R5 more for someone to click "Enable PVR". Thats a lot of money to just enable a switch if I have already paid for the functionality upfront

Keep pushing DSTV, keep pushing.

And you guys who defend them are a sorry bunch. This is a poor country and many people struggle just to eat, while you sit there and make fun of R500 a month. It is a hell of a lot of money for the amount of repeats and rubbish on there. Yeah, its better than SABC (no competition there), but a company like DSTV only gets away with this because they can and we pay it.

You would think with the amount of digital media available on the net they would wake the hell up and start offering better services over better hardware ASAP. All of you are still using substandard PVRs and praise DSTV for shafting you more and more each year. My little modified TIVO which is a series 1, has more features than even the HD decoder (in terms of interface, series passes etc), and it has been out in the states for years and years. DSTV could enable all the awesome features on their PVRs too, but they don't - because they just don't need too, and could not be bothered.

You may feel that R500 a bit more when mommy kicks you out the house.

I'd like to join the small group of pariahs and say that the subscription increase is less than 7% - not unreasonable (inflation etc.). That being said, R500 is still a huge amount of money. The R60 PVR fee is deplorable though. I can't see how they can justify that.

Well stoke of course they have ads or they would need find another 20 minutes of content an hour.

They are a business and they need to make money and i think 500 rand for the service they offer is pretty decent and comparing our 3rd country to a 1st country is pointless, why not look at the rest of africa and ask yourself how is their tv?
