re-run central

Have cancelled my subscription as of end of February. Paying for re-runs of re-runs. As far as i can see there is nothing stopping them from pricing on a per channel basis and you choosing which you want.

MNET (Analogue) subscription is also increasing to R269.00 (From R245)

Do y'all REALLY think that DSTV is expensive? I am in the UAE and Showtime is about R300, and you have to subscribe to Orbit too for another R300 just to get half of the channels that DSTV gives you. The sport channels suck with wall to wall shyteball. I think that South Africans would whinge if they won the lotto. R30 increase is bugger all, live with it and worry about something else.

It is expensive in comparison with other satellite services around the world, but as stated in this and other threads it is because of our smaller population. As a portion of disposable income it is also fairly big. A lot of complaints seem to hinge on...

1) The inflexibility of the service and the bouquets.
2) The horrendous repeats.
3) The prolific advertising.

It think it would be unrealistic to expect them to drop their prices back to sub R300 levels, but increases of R30 a year are a bit much. R5 or R10 increases would be more reasonable. They are simply putting it up to R500 because they can.

Why don't you get DSTv over there then? As far as I know it is/was possible

With a lower price they could take advantage of economies of scale with a far greater number of consumers. On that note, flexibility in terms of channel choice would send subscriber numbers through the roof.

100% agreed. But Greed is King in South Africa.
