I am not paying for adverts!

I am switching to DSTV Compact/Select, route it to WMC through my tv-tuner, then set selected feeds to auto open from FeedMyTorrents.com, and the download folder added to WMC, to watch through my xbox360 :p

Where is TelkomTV/WMC tv plz?

I've been seriously considering dropping down to compact. Seems DSTV have finalized my decision for me

This is a catch 22. MC are probably facing a drop in subscriptions due to the economic downturn. Their response, like nay other monopoly, is to hike prices to maintain revenue. They just spread their cost among fewer subscribers.

MC needs to think through their strategy ... because if they dropped their price, they would probably be able to retain their customers and probably attract a few more. But that is a chance which could probably be informed by better market research.

So those of you that protest (I'm not a DTSV subscriber) take note. It may hurt MC now, but they will retaliate with a mid year increase, because they are not in it to loose money.

You need around 20% of subscribers unite behind this cause before MC will take note. Otherwise it is useless.

I'd say plan a proper month long boycott ... say in a few months (april is too soon). If you get around 100 000 subscribers to do it, MC looses about R 20 million. If you do it once, they know you could do it again.

Good luck!!

The increases are said to come on 1 April 2009... It is not too soon. We should be doing this in March 2009 already but that IS too soon... :D

In response to this: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showpost.php?p=2573439&postcount=69

I think we should organize a national DSTV free month just to let Multichoice know we don't appreciate their pricing.

Would you support a one month DSTV stay away to protest the increases in Multichoice pricing?

Disclaimer: As a protester you will have to incur the possible cancelation charge or reconnection fee. I am just putting forth this idea to make Multichoice aware that its subscribers are actually human and not an army of robots that can print money from their rectums whenever they demand it...

I am not liable for any damages financially or otherwise incurred by partaking in what could be a prolific victory for South African consumers. I am not leading this effort as I think it would be the wrong thing to do. I will merely disconnect my DSTV for April 2009. Care to join? :D

Just a quick suggestion based on what was mentioned below:

1. Make sure Multichoice knows why you are disconnecting the service for one month.
2. Don't be rude to them. Just friendly and politely state the fact that their increases in fees are not welcome anymore and have them disconnect you for April 2009.
3. Spread the word! Mention this to your friends. Ask them if they would consider canceling their subscription for one month in April 2009 and let Multichoice know why they are doing so. You can make suggestions here. This is not an aggressive campaign. It is completely open to anybody to join or reject. The intention is not to be rude or anything, it is about getting things done the right way.

Suggestions? Post them below...

What are the new rates?

Thanks

We should also start an email campaign trying to inform people of this. The more people we can get to do this the better!

I remember a long time ago, think it was back in 87, 88 when mnet finally came to Potch. There was a problem with the mnet receiver in potch so the entire town struggled with their reception, and most of the time could not watch mnet. So when everyone got vocal and told mnet that they will not pay, mnet's replay was that they will take everyone to court, because no one was forcing us to subscribe, if we were unhappy we should cancel.

And that was that, so I don't really think they will be moved by this, but I am a cynic so...

So you're telling us that Potch is a town filled with activists? :D

The big problem is,you won't get even 10k people to do it.They'll say they will, but won't.

Protest comes with sacrifices, sacrifices dstv sub holder won't like.Yes you'll miss some super 14,have to watch sabc, have nothing to do at night, etc. The sad reality is Multichoice knows this and also know that most of their sub holders won't tolerate even one month of inconvenience in their lifes.

While this does seem like a good idea unless you get a few thousand people to do it MC won't even feel it. You will need like 100K people to stop subscribing for a month which in reality unfortunatly isn't going to happen.

I have 6 DSTV decoders linked to six apartments. Unfortunately the apartments are for holiday makers, so I need DSTV. :o

I would like to partake though.

As a suggestion: I would say cancel at least one of the subscriptions for the protest month.
