WHere is the facebook group? I will invite everyone I know into the group so they are aware of it.

Give friends and family a difficult time and make sure they cancel for a month.

This is a catch 22. MC are probably facing a drop in subscriptions due to the economic downturn. Their response, like nay other monopoly, is to hike prices to maintain revenue. They just spread their cost among fewer subscribers.

Hiking prices won't help them, it will just make things worse for them.
The less demand, the lower the price, basic economic law

And guys seriously, lets make a big thing out of this! Facebook, email, phoning, telling friends, go for it! We shouldn't sit down and accept rapage of our money from these monopolies!

Let's see...If I were the Multichoice CEO, I would rather take a knock from a maximum of 10,000 subscribers for one measly month than give in to the 'protesters' demands and lose the increased revenue from over a million subscribers for eternity. You can't suddenly increase rates by 20% next year to make up for it so this increase is a once-a-year opportunity.

1. If MC gives in they would be held to ransom every year.

2. The quality of the product would decrease as a result of no annual increases.

Sorry, guys you have already lost...plus April is gonna suck for you :D

actually, I think you are right. I don't think a one month protest is going to accomplish much. I think people should give it up all together... or do like me... just use it for one month in the year (wife's idea... not mine) :p

Basic economic law does not apply to monopolies.

And unless you can convince the majority of monochoice's subscribers to participate, you are fighting a losing battle. An admirable one, but a losing one nonetheless...

I agree 100% also 10,000 (approx. 75 from the poll) subscribers out of 2 million canceling wont change the CEO's mind.

Is a thread in a forum really the way to go, I'm starting a thread to stop global cooling, who's with me.

Back in 1987, when Electronic Media Network (now known as Multichoice) opened their doors, they knew what sport meant to South Africa, and they started their operation almost immediately punting the sports card with their Supersport brand. This is a nation that is sport-crazy, something I still fail to quite understand even though it has been explained to me several times. I can do without the internet for a month, and without TV. In my household we do not watch much tv, instead time is spent reading and reconnecting with family members and dealing with things that need to be done, as well as homework and the like.

The Potchefstroom incident mentioned, I recall that, and, as mentioned elsewhere in this thread, South African economics is a bit of a dog in the creek, it doesn't quite work like you would expect say in the States or in the EU.

South African corporates, the banks, Telkom, Multichoice, et-cetera, they all operate with the monopolistic mindset. They know that over 60% of South Africa are exploitable to their profitable benefit because the majority of the masses that subscribe to DSTV are bottom-of-the-barrel on the IQ scale, and this is why the survive here, and stay here, because their business models cannot work anywhere else except on the African continent.

Just remember the less you use the more it costs ( ESKOM RULES ) Africa Abides by this

Ok I never cancelled just went "DStv Easy View" route

MC gets R20.00 and not R499.00*

Its a start.

Still get 16 channels of cr@p but digital cr@p and no R50.00 reconnect fee.

There is no need to run out and get an antenna either

The family isn't taking it very well at all !!

Torrents are working overtime.

Be prepared for little or no leg over...

;)

A friend of mine says satellite in Europe sucks compared to DSTV at comparable rates. He misses DSTV over there. Maybe DSTV is not as evil as I thought. :)
