DStv prices increase next month

Well 30 bucks is not all that bad, they got german soccer now as well so for 30 bucks i am happy :D.

Rbarry so you will match one or two sporting events a month as opposed to just about any massive sport :D. Sorry but i would rather pay 530 a month than go to bars which will end up costing more. Depends on how much sport you watch i guess.

Rugby
cricket
soccer
f1
moto gp
super bikes.

Doubt i can get all that at sports bars for 530 a month.

+1

Your service SUCKS... i'd rather have a piss on your multichoice office and get more entertainment overnight in jail with a R500 bail than have to watch repeat after repeat after repeat! I can do WAY more with R500 than try and find something i have not already seen... or try and become interested in some lame ass cooking program or watch the millionth repeat of survivor... you have no vision.... your programming is aimed at getting you expensive cars and fancy retirement packages...

I have watched a bit of dstv this week not noticing the repeats all that much, for the coach potatoes who watch tv 5 hours a day yes i can imagine the repeats get a bit much.

When i think about the coming weeks in terms of sport i think 600 bucks for super 14, ipl, moto gp, all the soccer,f1, super bike. Man i just cannot get more sporting entertainment anywhere else close to 600 bucks and someone mentioned 600 bucks beer money and i was thinking they must drink very little :D. that is only 60 beers for the month. How would someone survive on only 60 beers? :D.

6% - pretty much keeping with inflation. But still, I can now get an uncapped ADSL line for less, and just download everything I want to watch. For live sport I'll go to my golf clubhouse with a cheap bar and huge bigscreen TV, or go watch it live at Newlands. Hell, for that price I can get Grandstand season tickets for me and the wife.

FIrstly, as a DSTV Premium (plus PVR) subscriber, I'm not happy about the increase, but I chuckle when I see this argument. It doesn't fly. Firstly, you are dowloading illegally. Secondly, it's quite a mission downloading stuff as opposed to having it delivered to you by satellite. Plus the PVR is awesome.

No it's not. Distribution (including uploading) is. There are quite a few threads on this in relation to SA law.

Clearly they pissed of the nigerians.....they kindapped a supersport journalist!

and +1 for whoever complained about this. Not the time for a price increase....but then.....if we dont have a choice and its only way to get to watch most sports then i guess they can ask whatever they want.

that is true- fortunately the only sport I watch is rugga, and then I normally go to a friends house- let some other sucker pay the R530 a month me thinks

True, but then you'd be at their mercy...

Guess I'm gonna have to keep coughing up until something better eventually comes along.

DStv, you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't.

haha... the DSTV PVR's suck donkey's behind... they don't even work properly. Their features are not even all active. And even if you can get it to work properly you will most likely cut off the last five minutes of your recording cos DSTV can't even get their timing right. :p

Downloading is the easiest thing in the world. Just cos you don't know how to do it... don't knock it.

I'm very very tempted to push onto Uncapped ADSL and ditch DSTV all together now....

They don't have much further to go to make uncapped a finacially viable solution which would improve "TV" in my house IMMENSELY.

Was thinking after forking out so much moola for the HD PVR and then still getting charged, R65 now for PVR access, feels like a double rape...

Why charge extra for something that was already paid for? Or is this point moot?

Let's face it - only reason Monochoice can charge more is their monopoly - nothing to do with inflation. The hardware they use to broadcast is all getting way cheaper over time, the services they use and content rights have to be cheaper from the global recession impact on Europe and the US. Their subscriber growth has reduced their fixed costs (per subscriber). They should be cutting staff costs with more efficient self-service options and general improvements. Electricity must be a small part of their bill. Overall, they should be coming in well below SA's inflation!

If it wasn't for a few programmes for the kids, and FIFA coming up (and my wanting to watch on HD), I would have turfed the PVR in the bin long ago! May even do so after June.

I can't wait until the competition comes in, then we can actually have a "multi-Choice"

Multi-choice don't understand that, more people = advertising $$$

3 Members. I'm sure Multichoice is trembling in their boots.

It's R30 a month FFS, have 1 packet of smokes less a month.

R30.....ON TOP of R500

i'm just saying, if we want to change something we should take action, and there is no better time than now. sure, if it was 2009 we can't do anything....but ODM is launching soon so this will be a DOUBLE Whammy forcing them to re-think their prices

if you look at how many people are canceling dstv and going for uncapped in this thread alone, I'd say it's now or never.
