DStv prices increase next month

3 Members. I'm sure Multichoice is trembling in their boots.

It's R30 a month FFS, have 1 packet of smokes less a month.

haha... your opinion has no credibility here. We all know you work for multichoice or one of those MAFIAA organisations! :p

It's a freaking rip-off... you can get 400 channels in the USA for half that price.

Multichoice is a company that specialises in commercial rape.... they rape the South African public who have no [-]multi[/-]choice to go elsewhere!

I was under the impression that downloading (which involves making an unauthorised copy) was in fact illegal?

no, that is what the MAFIAA wants you to believe... that is their way of turning a civil matter into a criminal one.

You know that FBI sign you see at the front of DVDs or the Interpol one? It's fake. It was never issued by the FBI or Interpol. The DVD producers used their logo without approval.

The copyright owner may have a case against you if he can prove financial loss... but it is primarily a civil case for infringement. He is going to have a very hard time though proving loss where you did not distribute anything and where you were unlikely to purchase the content in the first place. His legal fees are going to far outweigh what he can recover from you.

But that fact has not stopped them from trying to make downloading illegal in many countries and from prosecuting or disconnecting downloaders. They have made a lot of noise and fuss... BUT THEY HAVE NEVER WON A SINGLE COURT CASE WHERE A DOWNLOADER DID IT FOR HIS OWN PERSONAL USE AND DID NOT FURTHER DISTRIBUTE THE CONTENT. and they probably never will.

The South African copyright act says nothing about downloading and it has never been tested in our courts. But it does say that you may "import" a copy for your own personal use as long as you don't distribute it.

I actually work for MTN Business but don't let that little bit of information get in the way of your fantasies :)

The way I see it is that you don't need DSTV to survive. When food and petrol go up 6% then by all means, organise a protest.

If you don't like paying for something then cancel your subs.

Seriously? Wow, I would have thought that you at least worked for Multichoice or Ster Kinekor or SAFACT or the BSA judging by the amount of propaganda you spew from the MAFIAA crowd.

Way ahead of you China Bean... I canceled withe them years ago. Much happier with my current set up, thanks. And I don't have to give a cent to anyone at NASPERS or the Media24 group.

Now I am just on a personal mission to get as many other people to cancel as possible.

If the increase is set to start 1 April, why does it reflect on my March statement??

I see you still feeling important with your MAFIAA abbreviation crap. Just because not everybody likes to be cheapass pirates and some of us believe in paying for what we get doesn't make us wrong or you right.

Gary, the modern day robin hood. Who'd have thought.

no, but it does make you look like a fool for paying rip-off prices :D Just keep paying my friend, just keep paying. I'm sure they love you for it.

You betcha. ;)

No, it's R594 per month now (thats R990 pre-tax) for premium subscribers with a PVR. R7128 per year. What can you buy with R7128? Forget about how much it increased as that just pushed it over the top. It's expensive anyway you look at it for a few re-run channels. Hell, if we are not watching sport then we are watching a re-run on Nat-Geo or some other channel. Maybe the odd new movie is worth watching every month but most are not.

I wash my clothes in my bath water and brush my teeth in the top of the toilet.

In Japan they have these cute little sinks with taps at the top of the flush cistern. You wash your hands or brush your teeth and the water is used to flush the toilet. Of course everyone uses an enhanced toilet indoors - heated seat, warm water to wash your butt etc. You save on toilet paper.

DSTV is a rip off when compared to the rest of the world, they don't need to increase for inflation for quite some time. They want more cash, and we are just total suckers in SA.

multichoice increasing their prices is a good thing for competition. It gives them more head room to price their service.

bring on the competition now dammit!

These kind of things irritate me...

To cover "operational" increases.. why don't they jack the pricing of advertising on their damn channels instead of screwing their clients over

Because unlike their subscribers, the advertisers will actually leave.
Silly complacent SA consumers.. Happy to moan to friends, but still keep doing the same thing, over and over.

Considering MC is almost all crap or repeats, it's like a used car salesman selling the same car over and over again, except the price goes up. The Dakar and Winter Olympics were no more than news headlines. This is the sort of crap coverage they give to premier sporting events, and at a time of year when the sporting calendar sucks. There is less and less reason to subscribe.

thats why I said, let's join the facebook group.

joining is all you gotta do for now - if we see we have enough members in that group, we send out a letter to everyone, asking to finally cancel, just for 1 single month.

If anybody's planning on cancelling please let me know. I'd love to pick up a second hand dish and decoder :)

I totally agree, was hoping for some form of full coverage of the Dakar, after all, this is a "world cup" of sorts, with very competitive South Africans entered, who had a fair chance of winning...well it did go a bit pear shaped for VW. Now look at the soccer content on all of the SuperSport channels, day in day out it's just soccer, soccer and more soccer with a little bit of something else in between. All good for soccer fans, but what about the rest of us?

Here we had a week long full day, highly volatile, competitive, diverse and exciting (in my book) cross country motoring event, which only had a 30 minute highlight package every evening, and that's it...oh yes, don't forget the re-runs. They could have easily dedicated one full SS channel to the race for the duration of a day's racing.
