DStv prices increase next month

Yeah, i don't see a big future for DSTV if they keep increasing the costs - not with ODM coming in and Bandwidth getting cheaper...unless you absolutely have to have supersport - for the rest...don't think so

I enjoy my 720p Series, with no adverts, when I want to watch, and brand new - not 1-2 years after. DSTV is sh*t quality

plus I get to see shows that nobody else even knows exists. ever.

I use it purely for sport myself. Cannot depend on SABC and co for decent coverage of anything. Supersports sports coverage is epic. Agree with Killa, weekends are spent in front of the box, Super14, Cricket EPL soccer, F1 coming soon. It goes on and on and on. Then there are the 3 HD channels. Quality is fantastic in relation to SD and the bouquet increases every year with new channels introduced. Personally I'm happy with the content vs cost ratio. I don't think ODM is going to make much of a difference to how MC do business as Neotel didn't to how Telkom does etc etc etc Cell C, MTN, Voda the collusion between the players ensures net profits remain high at the expense of the paying customer. It took an organisation like ICASA to effect change. Competition does not...

haha... the DSTV PVR's suck donkey's behind... they don't even work properly. Their features are not even all active. And even if you can get it to work properly you will most likely cut off the last five minutes of your recording cos DSTV can't even get their timing right. :p

Downloading is the easiest thing in the world. Just cos you don't know how to do it... don't knock it.

i'm not knocking downloading. obviously, it takes time to find stuff, then download it, store and categorize it, not to mention the riosk of viruses, patchy quality, plus you know it's not right/legal/ethical. whatever, do what you want, the argument doesn't fly

Yay... another MAFIAA shill joins the debate...

wassamatter are you jealous? :D Nobody is stopping you from paying those prices to multichoice.... go right ahead! ;)

The programming continues to go down the tubes each year. The repeats are infinite. If there were 2 main stream movies released last year it was a lot. I am sure a hell of lot of movies we see went straight to dvd. If they released that crap in cinemas they would be empty.

You would think there would be some sort of improvement, but they can't even get the f..king online programming guide right.

Gary, watched http://tvgorge.com/

Nice smooth video, sweet. Now I just need to get the tackle to stream it to the tv and I'm set. I am just a bit concerned after mvix seemed to vanish of the shelves. Any suggestions?

ja, it does look nice... but I am not a big fan of streaming video... I prefer to download the proper XviD or X.264 formats. Much much better quality. Plus all my buddies and family who have also given NoChoice the boot can then also watch. Spread the love man! ;)

whatever dude, you know it's wrong

What's wrong is living in a country full of monopolies where consumers have no choice. If you feel sorry for MC and are happy to pay them for the endless repeats and ads then by all means go ahead, it's your money and sympathy. But don't question the ethics of consumers who want choice if they're acting within the law.

IMO no argument in favour of a monopoly increasing its subscription fees should ever be based on inflation - if inflation truly bites a monopoly so badly, then it is time the monopoly saved some money by axing its dead wood.

ja... and went back and took a course in basic economics! :D

If DSTV was still around R250.00 for the full package I would still be subscribed... that is how much it costs in the US (although they get 300 more channels than we do... but anyway).

If it was around R150 for the full package they could probably sign up way more people...

2 million subscribers at R530 = R1,060,000,000 (I know they are not all on that package, but just indulge me)

or

8 million subscribers at R150 = R1,200,000,000

Don't forget the advertising revenue.

People speak about wrong but happily support monopolies which is also wrong, eye for an eye :D.

Trouble gary i dunno if there are 8 million people to purchase dstv. This country has majority of it's people stuck in shacks and dirt poor.

Ja, no doubt... but have you driven through any of those shanty towns lately and seen the number of dishes there? Anyway... they can find a happy medium somewhere in between there. Problem is they are too greedy to take the risk.

O for sure i can agree that dropping costs will bring in more income but i think they have done the logistic in terms of operating costs and charging more with less people = more money. More people less money = higher operating costs. Sadly this is the SA logic. How do the Soweto channel broadcast? F that must make money if it is a free channel :D.

Just need a wireless user group with like minded people and you could have a free BlockBuster!

It doesn't cost Multichoice anything if another person wants DStv, its the same signal, coming from the satellite whether you have 1 client or 1 billion...

Well since I bought my Kindle from Amazon I have been watching less and less TV. So I just downgraded to the Compact version. I also upped my AfriHost bandwidth. I only watch so many shows so with limit bandwidth I can still catch all my shows, and now with TVGorge it even seems to be legal.

4Meg DSL here I come... download a new series and watch it that same new series is playd 748 times over on DSTV.... to catch a new epie you have to diarise the date....

Wasn't ODM supposed to reveal their lineup of channels at the end of February?

i would love to see you sit back and watch in the same comfort, ease of use and picture/sound quality, on tvgorge.com as you do on dstv.... dstv broadcast at dvd quality ? MM1 even has dolby sound? I doubt u can stream that over any adsl line in SA, and then with 1 click switch between different programs, and have the new program showing in about 1 second.... maybe one day, but for now any internet streaming/dopwnloading is miles behind dstv.... and will be miles behind odm and super5media as welll....
