DStv PVR pricing ambiguity

Hmm didnt really think of it that way. but i agree that DSTV monthly subcription for premuim is way too much. Overseas the cable tv + internet + phoneline is one product for about R250.

“There was no intention from MultiChoice to mislead."

Bwahahaha! Good one MultiChoice! Yeah, right... and you guys are not in any way greedy, are you? :D

Agreed, the PVR fee is just a plain rip-off. The functionality is already in the device and the reason you pay so much for it (which is also overpriced I might add). If I buy a fancy Samsung microwave, I'm not going to pay R60 month extra to Samsung if I want to use the grill function.

let hope there is more noise made about this "access" fee, which is bollocks to begins with. as mentioned earlier, "If I buy a fancy Samsung microwave, I'm not going to pay R60 month extra to Samsung if I want to use the grill function." it's nonsense. a once off fee I could perhaps get my head around, but ONLY perhaps. but a monthly fee to be able to pause etc is plain daylight robbery.

This access fee cost is like "Microsoft" charging for system updates, service packs etc.

DSTV should drop this bloody price comletely.

First you have to pay so much for the damn decoder, then pay extra to use it

This is South Africa so we can't really expect any better than this blood thirsty company.

Bwahahaha! Good one MultiChoice! Yeah, right... and you guys are not in any way greedy, are you? :D

Well MULTICHOICE if its not misleading then drop the f#@$ing PVR fee easy as that!! (PVR is actually a feature thats part of the decoder that was purchased in the first place).

We will not be held ransom just to be able to use the PVR "feature" of our decoders

Drop the fee -you charging high rates already! No-one ever told me about the additional charge until I wanted the PVR connected... surprise! extra charge...

Again it comes down to choice. If you don't want to pay for it, don't use it. The same with everything, like Smookoo, if you despise, don't use it. There is no way in gods given earth that I would pay R60 just to pause something, that's crazy, so I don't subscribe to it, if people can afford to waste money on that feature, well go for it!

In S.A. we are ripped off so badly and yes I hate it but again, we as mostly adults, have the luxury of choice. I know that monochoice is just that, but if you don't like it, go do something else.

Uncapped adsl + torrents = series, movies = no more boring crap on tv

I agree,
DSTV is for LOSERS,
LOSE your money for mind numbing content.

I have no TV antenna nor Dish anymore, its been a year of bliss so far. I can get all my desired news and media online. What I want, when I want.

Sure, HDTV is not a luxury I usually have, but it shouldn't be a luxury in the first place, and damn, there is no way I'm going to pay the piper.

For starters, places like Australia have had free terrestrial digital HDTV for years now. And HDPVR's are a fraction of the cost in europe and the states. Not to mention the irony is that Naspers is one of their major suppliers.

So while the first world gets the discounts, we in SA are suckered.

Keep paying through the anus for DSTV if you wish. I'm just glad that I longer am.

With any luck, 10 years down the track, their line of business will be obsolete...

i dropped dstv premium like a hot potato..
sure i miss rugby and cricket..i just go to a friend's house for that..
i have a 4mb line and uncapped internet..yay!
i get all the shows and movies i want within hours of being released from the states.

“There was no intention from MultiChoice to mislead."

not sure that I would be so easily fooled by that statement :erm:

DStv is like Vanish: the only thing that "vanishes" is your money! I left DStv due to their prices, and the ridiculous R65 a month PVR subscription fee. WTF? What the hell for? One buys a PVR decoder, nothing says it's subject to a subscription fee, and then there's the annual increase. I was paying over R650 a month for DStv Premium, now I pay R219 per month for TopTV. Do I miss DStv? NEVER!

:mad:yeah i agree what a load of bull
i mean if they were transparent about their business then they would offer i as R30 for pvr and R30 for xtra view but no they want R65 ofr both features = not everyone needs both features so y not have the choice
and number 2 the decoder was paid for already so who are they to charge extra for a feature that is not theirs to control i mean really now what a rip off
i sommer wanna go burn the decoder in front of the MWEB building !!! lol
but then i can't watch the rugby lol

Uncapped adsl + torrents = series, movies = no more boring crap on tv

Is that why Mweb canned uncapped ADSL? I thought they were aware of the torrent issue from the beginning.

If guys are that dumb imagine what the company would be like if it was run by people who actually know what they are doing!

I pay up front every year, expires Feb 2012, and then that's the end of DSTV in my house. If terestrial TV is going to have some international cricket on, then that's all I need. 4 meg ADSL and a Blueray player and I'm sorted. All that saving and I can now buy 2-3 music DVD's every month.
