DStv SABC channels blackout explained

Yeah had to calm down my mother last night when SABC 2 was down. she missed 7de laan and was fuming...... The worst part is the call centre got bombed with so many callers it went down......

And in other news all ADSL peering links fail (unbelievable...!) The whole of the country has no ADSL for 3 days...

WOuld have been cheaper to get her a dish, decoder and R20 dstv sub for SABC....

That's basically what she's got, the decoder is on the lounge under the chimney with the dish and the flatlet is quite far away etc. And the sub is R29. We could kill the extra view but it's handy for just in case something worth watching ever comes on sabc...

Guess it says a lot about the quality of DSTV programming when people get upset about not receiving the SABC channels :D

What a load of crap!!!! Please I don't believe this story for one second! People taking to social media because they could what their reruns of programs that ended in 1980 already! Total BS if you ask me.

Go check out the DStv Facebook page for yourself then. Here's a link to a later complaint (you'll have to look from 18:00 to see where they started): https://www.facebook.com/dstv/posts/10152039841659135

7de Laan was on over that time.

Sorry, I don't buy it.
Uh Gary, there are numerous places in SA, where there is absolutely no signal from the SABC, places like deep in the Drakensberg.
No amount of TV antenna will get you signal in those places. The dish is the only way to get the SABC>

Plenty of ignorance in this thread. A broadcasting company who happens to be a customer of mine did a survey not too long ago and according to the results, SABC1 is the most-watched channel in South Africa. This is for terrestrial as well as satellite.

Don't get me wrong, I personally also can't stand SABC but those of us who are privileged enough to have access to uncapped ADSL/Broadband services and/or DSTV Premium with "better" content are still in the vast minority.
