DStv standalone streaming service delayed

MultiChoice has completed development of its DStv Now standalone streaming service and plans to launch it once the COVID-19 situation has normalised.

The service will allow users to stream DStv content without linking their account to an active decoder and satellite installation.

Good luck with that one.

What they meant to say was: plans to launch the service once sport is back so they actually have something worth it for people to sign up to. But with my limited knowledge I would have thought now was actually the perfect time to launch because there is demand for anything to watch but also not too much because of no sport. Then use this time to optimise everything so that once the sport returns the service will be ready to cope with the extra load??

One would think launching it at a time when a lot of people are at home would be the play.

Well technically you can get it now but the price will be equal to the normal current price. They activate a new account for you with your desired plan and then you just use DSTV now.

Multichoice must think people are retarded. If their service's development was complete they would have launched it by now. A compulsory lockdown is the perfect time you could ever launch a streaming service.

Nah, it's either a steaming turd or they can't internally agree on a set of pricing tiers.

The only comparison I can make is between netflix and showmax and believe me showmax is firmly in second place.
Bad interface, slow to open, search function only works if you type in the exact title. You have to log in all over again every second day when you want to watch something. Resolution is also lagging behind netflix. So maybe they should first fix this before releasing a new service.

Ja, those 720p-up-to-like steams must be biets to code running a 5/10 device limitation instead of detecting concurrent streams

Let's launch it when less people want it...

It's gonna be expensive because of SPORT and they can't justify the price because right now there's none.
Never thought of it that way

I will be honest I thought launching now will be great because it will allow multichoice to detect if their system can handle high-volume of subscribers at the ones in near future so failing to launch now it may result in serious technical glitches after few months

I just reactivated my DSTV subscription after having suspended it for almost 2 years. In those 2 years my satellite dish completely rusted off of my roof, and my PVR decoder stopped working. So all I did was reactivate my account online and load DSTV Now on to my Mibox and now that's the only way I access DSTV.

I have tried it on 3 different browsers. It is useless. There is no menu where you can select a channel. Need a lot more work
