DStv versus Netflix

Yeah right, like they were going to say Netflix is better and people want it more. In other news Zuma has issued a statement that the DA & EFF really love talking to him in parliament.:D

So Kevin, how can you make the following statement without knowing how many users there are for Netflix?

There was an article a while where a research group said there was around 66 000 subscribers to Netflix in South Africa. That was BEFORE they launched locally, and before Netflix did all their geoblocking crap.

I think looking at broadband stats alone it's safe to say that Netflix is far behind DSTV in ZA.

It's a pity the Node failed. Best of both worlds. Great idea, just poorly executed.

Research group had a guesstimate. Netflix doesn't release figures.

The cost of uncapped / large data cap broadband is also a factor for some, limiting the growth of streaming services' subscriber numbers.

I and others have seen the light and made our Exodus from DSTV.

gave up DSTV 3 or 4 years ago. What this article says, is that pay us almost R900, but hey if you want additional on demand services, get a nice internet connection and pay extra to watch more stuff on DSTV.

Thing which alot of people miss when they say, BUT Internet is also about the same as DSTV depending on your line. Thats true, but there are no so to say restrictions of what you can watch and when. Also with a household of 4, not having to worry about having to buy data etc is a plus.

Then you have things like your alarm system using wifi, or being able to do some video calls or VOIP calls is also something which DSTV doesnt offer.

So its a funny game this from DSTV, because lets face it here, most things need an internet connection these days. Most things you can watch with an internet connection. Im not sure these factors are taken into consideration by people. To pay DSTV almost R900 and pay for a DSL connection at what almost R600 to R700 again depending on line etc is utter madness.
