I just wish someone would put their balls on the line and say they are happy they moved from DSTV to Top-TV.

I would never in a million years drop DSTV for Top-TV with their current offerrings, would someone who left DSTV for Top-TV pls post the pro's and con's which made them move. I'm not very happy with the fee I'm paying for DSTV but that will not make me jump ship. I need more.....

That's more the Q I would ask

I can't give up sport & latest series

Your right

I have the fullhouse: Premium + HD (Because I have a PVR I need to pay Dualview too) Comes to R 600 give or take a month. I feel it's a bit heavy but I would not give it up for the Top of the range Top-TV offering. I hear all this praise but would honestly like to know what the hype is. Yes I'm sure it beats the lower DSTV packages. I just don't see myself moving pretty soon. If Top-TV gets some awesome channels and what not I'll prob add it on to my DSTV but let go of DSTV..... not very that easy.

Well not unless Top-TV really brings their game :o

It's been done to death. TopTV is not aiming for DSTV premium subscribers well only those who can't afford it maybe. You know the ones constantly whining about the price. TopTV is going after SABC/eTV viewers with no pay TV experience. However, what's happened is that a bunch of DSTV subscribers flocked to topTV instead saddling topTV with whiners in the process. So topTV aren't even serving their target market yet.

Well said.

very well said, and i can honestly say, that I myself had DStv Premium + HD channels, and ill be honest with you, Dstv didnt cater much for my needs as my as Toptv does, and I must say, That Fox Channels Im hooked, Kerrang, Smash Hitz are the best Music Channels, not forgetting BET with their Shows, they Rock.. Overall I wasnt a series fan on Dstv, but with TTV im Surely developing a taste for series especially Family Guy is the best :)

Had DSTV years and years ago so can not compare.

TopTV has entertained me each time I put the tv on.
(not even looked at the movie channels yet)

My worry is repeats, not that I have seen many, just that I am concerned they may become a problem in the not to distant future.

As R13 stated: TopTV's target market is the middle to lower income families that haven't been able to afford pay-tv or not willing to pay the exorbitant price of DSTV. It is unfair to compare the two.

+1

it's ok to compare them both, but not right now... dstv has hd channels, ss-active, and some other cool features while toptv doesn't, it's gonna take some time for toptv to get on the level of dstv's services, but that's much about it. i have both toptv and dstv, but for me i'm enjoying both, so i cant complain about either.

BALLS (balls on the line)

I can honestly say that moving from Dstv Compact to TTV was a good move and I am enjoying the content that TTV has to offer (got sick of all the Dstv repeats anyway).

So far the following has kept me and the wife entertained:

Discovery Science - Mythbusters & How Its Made, Science of the Movies etc.
CurrenTV - Huge variety of content created by viewers shown in short pods and often categorised in countdown/best of type shows - literally anything from South American gangsters, robots, technology (basically everything)
Kerrang - Best music channel I have seen
FOX Entertainment - X-Files & The Simpsons
Discovery Travel & Living - for the wife
Top Explore - Globetrekker
FOX FX - Las Vegas
TOP Crime - Relic Hunter
TOP History - some interesting WW2 doccies etc.
Investigation Discovery - much better than Zone Reality

Not watched the movies too much yet, but I am sure they will get newer titles soon.

The lack of sport is not missed as I only had soccer on Compact anyway.

At least TTV is trying to meet the demands of the pay tv market by offering some degree of choice and affordability, unlike DSTV who try to milk as much as possible out of their subscribers.

Rise up South Africa ....

At long last I found the answer I was looking for, thanx JJCOOL.

I'm not at all trying to compare the 2 I'm just being sucked in with all these Top-TV this and that so I needed to see where it stands. I have no doubt in my mind that if Top-TV starts running more or less like DSTV I would jump ship. Sport being Priority no1. I'm pretty chuffed that they have Mythbusters and all that dono what season but that is just about all I watch is Discovery and Supersport. Wife watches all the other thingies and the movies ofc. That we watch together. Oooo and Kyknet.

For all this I pay R 600 month :(

Could be easy decision but will wait - DStv Compact is on Top (excuse the pun)...

Well good for you but I cannot say I agree with you.

The reason I took Compact on DStv is so that my needs can be met.

When I say my needs I mean information (news, general knowldge etc), entertainment (music, series, movies and cartoons[for my son]), sport and at an affordable price (R232/mth).

Compact really has it all.

I guess the South African market is still very much divided into soccer vs rugby & cricket when it comes to sport - which is sad. So, as a Compact subscriber who is into soccer, my needs are absolutely met.

It is sad that this is the state of affairs really because I do not think that all rugby and cricket fans are happy to pay the R529 in order to watch their favorite sport/s. Also, the fact that these sports are made so expensive means that people like me cannot see the joys of cricket & rugby and develop a liking for them, meaning my son will not be influenced by them too. This means that the sporting industry's division will continuen to be prepetuated. I cannot even watch golf so I will not make it a part of my life.

Verdict. If you want a complete bouquet rather stick with DStv. Even if you want a semi-complete one. Maybe DStv should launch Compact 1 and 2 with Compact 2 having rugby and/or cricket as opposed to soccer or add a bit of both to their current Compact offering and make it R279/mth. I would pay.

Otherwise, what I have seen on TopTV is attractive if you are not into sport. There are also some small issues regards to freezing pictures and heavly granulated pixelation, which my wife has complained about especially when watching SABC 2. We are on the R99 bouquet. I think we will try TopTV's full bouquet in August (after the world cup and at the beginning of the football season) and see if they broadcast any live games. If they don't I will see if I can live with it. Frankly speaking, I don't see how I can coming from DStv compact where I could watch my team in action in the EPL, Champion's League and FA and Carling Cups.

The decision might be easy really. Stay with DStv Compact.

That is a great idea - if Multichoice offered this option they could win me (as well as 1000's of other) ex-compact subscribers back.

Soccer is not the sport that everybody wants to watch.

Compact without the sport imo is not better than the TTV offering.

get top TV for everything else and use "readon tv" to watch all major sport live online.

I watch all sport live with radeon TV. works like a charm and runs pretty smooth on iburst and is completely free. all rugby, cricket is shown live, they ussualy show any major sport games live. I am not a big rugby fan so i am not sure about any local rugby games.

You can also request any new channels be added to the player on their forums.

granted its not high definition, but beats paying R600 pm just to watch sport. that is R600 more you could put towards a descent uncapped line that just has so many uses.

Just hook up your PC to TV and you watch your sport online.

Maybe one day - when I find sufficient need and time to warrant having a broadband connection at home. However I will have to watch the rugby elsewhere for the time being.

Couldn't have said it better myself.Makes me think of the netbook launch. The wrong people bought it and now we're sitting with overpriced netbooks trying to be laptops.

I never look at paytv for movies as i have a dedicated bluray supply from the US and the few amount of tv shows i watch i download.I use Toptv for the doccies and news channels.Absolutely love it.Also use Faux news as my comedy channel.

I am quite sure they haven't even touched their target market yet.

But then they will lose Premium users as they will move to Compact :D
