DSTV Will Marry Your Smartcard to Decoder

What Piracy are they talking about --

1. Card sharing?

2. Content Piracy?

I found this http://www.austech.info/showthread.php?t=146963

------
Your DSTV card will only work in one provider box ( The one that has married to the card )

It will however work in a multitude of non - provider boxes.

Waiting to see what boxes with work??

Ebay or I have been buying from www.pulsat.co.uk or www.DVBshop.net

There was a guy in Cape Town selling them at one stage but he is no longer doing it

I am trying to find a DreamBox DM7025 locally but so far no luck. I hate importing things (SARS and Postage) but its seems it might be the only way to get one.

Just a note: try and look for a good supplier, as there are guys out there that try and rip you off with bad product and cost.

My DREAMBOX DM500S is still working with my MCA SMART CARD.

Do We know if they are marrying with CAM or Decoder itself ?

I was thinking of buying a Local SMART Card Splitter but I suppose I should wait and see.

Any comments on this.

Does anyone have the Terms and conditions for Sale and use of DSTV?

I want to see if they say you can't use a Local Card Splitter in the terms?

Regards D3c

Where are you receiving DSTV from - SA on Ku band or Africa on C band?

We know the Dreambox works with some DSTV cards.

I would also be interested to know if the wi-fi card-splitter works with official decoders.

Thanks for the links, will check it out. Do they work with a normal DSTV smartcard or is there something special that needs to be done?
There are certain cards that are not compatible with certain decoders. I assume that a card-splitter would be affected as well so check it out before spending your dosh.

:) YES it works with DSTV PVR NO ISSUE (Friend has one)
Mmmm...OK, so the card is married to the box, so you can transmit the data from the msartcard to another box that hasn't been married? Or maybe that box has to be married too ...

Incidentally, which splitter is he using?

well now the pirates will just have to clone the decoders aswell

The hardware is pretty standard. In fact cheaper than it should be, but the software has been tampered with. We need someone to produce their own. Maybe we could get one of the boxes from the manufacturer which hasn't been DSTV 'branded'.

I believe there can't be too many people pirating DSTV (In South Africa) as the equipment that allows Smartcard sharing are expensive.

Eg.

DreamBox

DM500 is 150 Pounds
DM7025 is 400 pounds

Local SMARTWi card sharing 139 pounds.

Add Postage, Customs cut and VAT

I might be wrong

DSTV are only doing this to protect there market share.

I think the major issue is DSTV and NO-choice are being Anti-Competitive

DSTV have announced that, this month, your smartcard will be officially 'married' to your decoder. In a TV advertising campaign, they are urging people with more than one decoder, in your second home or caravan :p , to contact them so that they can organise the links.

This is allegedly happening "because of piracy".

First same-sex marriages, now this. What next ? :D

There is some piracy, but it must be very very small. Some outfit was cloning cards, which is quite difficult to do and expensive to buy.

I would hardly consider wi-fi sharing piracy. Sharing smartcards over the internet is a bit more serious but as D3C says, involves a big initial outlay. There's also the bandwidth to have the service available to consider.

So, yes, storm in a teacup.

Hi Guys

I would just like to tell you about this receiver / card marriage thing .

Basically what happens is the receiver will marry the card , this will stop
your receiver being used with other cards It does not stop you using
your card in another receiver , unless it too is a DSTV receiver and has
had the marriage firmware installed over the air so basically if you
have two receivers and two cards , you cannot swap cards from one box
to another .

For those wanting to use splitters ie run multiple boxes on one card , you
will need to use all non -provider boxes I have supplied several cable and
wireless splitters to SA and most users have problems with the UEC boxes ,
we have found them to be a pain in the bum here too .

If any of you guys ever need anything send me an email , I have sent a lot
to SA in the past .

Best regards

Please will you clarify this point because we have two Multichoice sets.

If I buy a wi-fi splitter I can put our card in this machine and it will let us watch two programs at the same time. The card says "Series 5".
