DSTV Xtra view heartbeat problem - Help, at a loss, clueless

Ever since I changed from 2x 1110 decoders to PVR Hd and 1 x 1110 decoder I have been having issues with the xtra view.

What happens is that the secondary decoder (the 1110) stops showing the picture and gives a message waiting for signal from primary.
At first I thought it was because my cable may have got damaged by builders, so I fixed the cable and it looked like the problem went away, but it came back, so I changed the cable and again it looked the problem was solved but it started again.

I tried contacting the call centre and they reset all my settings but that didn't help. I called them again and they said I must bring in the decoders so they can test them. I thought I would wait until after the holidays and lo and behold it worked for about 10 days straight but then again yesterday it started up again.

What happens is that every half an hour the secondary loses the heartbeat and if I go into xtraview settings on the primary it then resets the heartbeat and starts transmitting again. Settings on all decoders are fine, cables are fine, and nothing changed that would cause it to work for 10 days and then stop again.

I read on some site that it may be caused by magnetic interference? Is this really possible, and then how do I check which side has the problem?

Question ... how close together are the 2 decoders?

I had endless Heartbeat problems, same as you... Multichoice Help was no help... Then I figured after a bit of research, just how sensitive the circuitry for the heartbeat is... My two decoders were running hot enough to cause interference. So I moved my secondary decoder way away from the HD PVR...Have not had any troubles since!

I dont have anything on or around my two decoders. They run so flippin hot by themselves... So check and see if the HD PVR is getting plenty of cool air!
 
Ahhh, I used to have problems. The cable was damaged and I simply joined with a male-female connecter. Didn't work at all until I put in one long single cable that joined the 2 decoders.

Also, and I stand under correction, you can't just use any cable if you want to cover some distance - the cheap co ax cable works fine for short distances but the RF6 coax cable works brilliantly over long distances as it has less resistance, maybe worth a shot but RF6 coax is something R7 a meter compared to the R3 a meter cheap co-ax
 
yup, I have one long expensive cable from zak, so not the cable.
I'm just at a loss as why did it work fine for about 10 days and then yesterday start up again, when nothing has been changed.
 
I doubt they're to far as I saw somewhere on DSTV forums that they tested xtraview successfully with a 100 metre cable.
 
Hi I started having the same problem ,it works for about 1hour to 10 mins and then it says waiting for heart beat and then it just says cant find connection , I have no clue why and they are standing on different shelves in my wall unit so can be heat it just started last week. I even had my machines swopped out but with no success, can someone please help me as i am at my wits end with this crap. no one touched them and they were working fine , i have changed the cables 4 times already but still no success :mad:
 
Sorry to fire up an old thread.

I am having similar problems, and I suspect it is because I have 2 joins in the cable which is probably about 25m in length total. Is there a way around this that anybody is aware of this, I really don't feel like having to run a new cable.
 
Check all the F-Type connectors, I had a similar problem all I did was make sure the connectors where properly earthed and that fixed my problem.
