We want to subscribe to DSTV but I'm confused as to how this extraview thing works.

We need the ability to watch 2 separate channels, but it would be nice to have only one decoder and a little 'eye' thing.

Is this possible?

Yeah try go HD PVR, won't regret. You can pick it up for R1899 on special sometimes. Then the SD decoder for R599.

And what is the difference between normal PVR and the 2P PVR?

You can only get the 2P nowadays. The older ones were able to watch/record 2 channels I think, where the 2P can only watch/record 1. I also think the older ones had more problems, not to mention being R1000 more expensive. Have had no problems whatsoever with the 2P, really chuffed!

you can have extraview with only 1 decoder. i bought the R599 package with free installation. i later wanted extraview and sold my DS1131 and bought an older dual view decoder and just got a dual lnb with an extra cable to the decoder. you can pcikup 1 for like R500 or so.

Both 4 tuner HDPVRs are still on the market
I would recommend the 2P though

That's called dual view, not Xtraview

by a second hand sd pvr or old dual view decoder, that what you want since you want only 1 decoder but ability 2 watch 2 chanels at the same time,

Just be aware that DSTV is *really* cr@p at the moment, reruns are the order of the day, so apart from the live sport and news channels, you will have seen everything within a few days...

Not true... I don't think that's what the OP asked though, I'm sure he's read all the anti-MC drivel here already.
By the way they have DHW, The Mentalist, Grey's Anatomy, Fringe 3 (can't wait), and CSI just started... all returning this month or so. Plus a whole host of comedies too.

Wow, five new series!

Oh yes, don't they get aired five times per week?

All for the bargain price of R600 until April...

Look I wasn't looking to get into that. You were being disingenuous advising Pooky he'd have seen everything within a week... There are always series running every day of the week & I just posted some of the highlights (or rather those I'll watch). DSTV is expensive but so is Top TV! Good prices and South Africa just don't go together.

@OP, Don't listen to the anti-DSTV drivel. Get the PVR, then record the programs you like and watch them at your leisure.

There is so much to watch, funny never when you want to watch it, therefore the PVR is brilliant.

We keep deleting because we can't seem to watch it all and we watch a lot of tv.
